Upcoming Game: Deadspace

Something I'm looking forward too, and any serious, (or otherwise) gamers should look into.

This Halloween there will be a game coming out called dead space. Even if you're not into sci-fi or survival horror, it's still worth hearing about. If you ARE into those kinds of games then you're really in for a treat. Dead space takes place in the distant future, where enormous resource constraint has caused humanity to look to the deep reaches of space, on derelict planets for resources for earth and other populated planets. Much of the back story is found in the animated comic series, which you can find on the official website dead space game the comic reveals many things, such as that people in the future are either atheists or Unitologists, at least, those are the only religions shown so far. Unitologists are those that believe the ideas of Michael Altman, who apparently was killed by an accident two centuries ago, or the government, whether people believe that it was a conspiracy or not. Anyway, after this, the government was transformed into a theocracy. This is not to say that the original one no longer existed, but rather that the church had more power. After a series of accidents caused by miners who all had been suffering from depression, fatigue, insomnia, and eventually insanity, supposedly caused by a black, double-helix stone with red markings covering it, they discover that the markings are a code for a recombinant virus that transforms dead bodies into flesh-eating monsters. As they try to contact the orbiting ship overhead, the USG Ishimura, where the dead bodies from the colony and the marker were taken, they are all killed one by one

The game features the character, Isaac Clarke, a miner who was sent to the ship to investigate the disappearance of the crew, and repair the communications grid. He quickly discovers that the crew has been transformed into the deadly necromorphs. There are a few things that separate this game from others. Firstly, there is no HUD everything you see and do is in-game, something that has made every other game unrealistic. The ability to pause and equip new items and guns is absent here, this is done in-game.

Because Isaac's profession is a miner, and not a soldier, many of the items are mining tools, such as plasma cutters, blowtorches, and saw blades.

You also have many abilities, such as kinesis, which you use to throw around body parts as a weapon, or to solve puzzles. You also have stasis, which can slow down enemies or other things such as hatches or doors. As I said before, there is no HUD so instead, the health bar and stasis meter are on the back of your suit, as it is a third person shooter.

The combat itself is unique, instead of pouring bullets into these things and scoring headshots, there is something called “strategic dismemberment”. In which you use your cutting tools to take off arms, legs and sometimes heads, although it's not always the best idea, as it only changes their approach, excluding the finishing blow.

Dead space has also incorporated a store system where you can upgrade your suit and weapons and buy ammo.

Dead space's release date started at Halloween, but was moved to the 21st of October. The final release date has been set at October 14th for the ps3 and x box 360 and the 20th for the pc.
