The World Ends With You Review

The world begins with this game.

There are not a lot of good video games that came out for the Nintendo DS in the last months. The World Ends With You was awaited with a lot of expectation and it was really worth the wait, actually, we could have waited more for a game this awesome.

The World Ends With You

Developers: Square Enix, Jupiter
Publisher: Square Enix
Platform: Nintendo DS
Release Date US: April 22
Genre: Action Role-Playing Single Player
Current Price Bought New:39.99

Graphics: 9/10

This is a game that really uses the ressources of the DS, with 3D backgrounds and 2D sprites, everything looks very nice, either in exploration, cutscenes and combat. The cutscenes of themselves are just amazing, even though the system's limitations, theres a lot of cutscenes compared to other DS games.

Gameplay: 9/10

This is where the game shines at it's highest, the gameplay and the combat system are simply amazing.

The combat system of itself, is a system where there are 2 battles going at once in one fight, one on the bottom screen, where you control the main protagonist of the game:Neku with the touch screen and his customizable powers and one on the top screen, where you control one of Neku's partners in a DDR fashionned way with the D-Pad to attack. The monsters in the battles are present on the two screens at once and have the same health bar(If one enemy is defeated on the bottom screen, it will be defeated on the top screen too, and vice versa), your characters also share the same health bar.

Gameplay loses one point because sometimes, the touch screen is confused between walking or using Neku's powers.

Musics and Sounds: 10/10

This game's soundtrack is simply the best on the DS(Except Elite Beat Agents), most of the music is Jpop, so if you don't like Jpop, you probably won't like the music in this game. The tunes are catchy and entertaining both into exploration and battles, they are also good in the cutscenes. The sound of itself is very nice, it fits the attacks/actions.

Plotline: 7/10

You are a young teen called Neku and you wake up in a scramble in a alternate Shibuya, you realise that you are part of a game called the Reapers game in which you have to survive during 7 days.

I won't spoil the story for you, but it's basically reposing on plot twists.

Lifetime: 7/10

This game finishes in about 15-30 hours, which is good for a DS game, at the end of the game, you gain a mode where you can go back in the story and gain secret reports explaining the story, which adds up more hours of gameplay.

This game is a must buy if you own a DS.
