The Market of PC Games

Is the market of PC games booming or loosing?

So I was reading a post on this site and it was saying about someone wanting writers for their blog but he didn't want PC games reviews and someone asked him why and he said there isn't really a market for them. I was then sat there thinking I think he is right! There isn't much in the form of PC games, so why not?

Well the reason for not many PC games is because you have the internet! The MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) gaming industry is booming! With the likes of Jagex cashing in on the billions of dollars which people are spending for memberships on these games it's not surprising that game companies are more interested in making online games than making the regular PC games. With this companies like EA and Microsoft are profiting.

Top 10 list of MMORPG Games.

  1. Entropia Universe - A real cash economy. What more could you ask for to keep the weenies out! After over 2 years playing hard EU still rocks the competition. Other games seem pointless when a RCE allows you to actually gain real life value for your gaming.(What They Said)
  2. World of Warcraft - come on guys, this game practically never ends, has virtually hundreds of ways to go about it and staff is always improving the game and it never gets worse!(What They Said)
  3. Final Fantasy XI - Final Fantasy XI is THE MMORPG to play these days, it's simply the best. It's game play and design are superior to the competition and FFXI also has a very deep story, something the other games are lacking. Blizzard needs to take a page out of Square's book and learn how to make a real MMORPG.(What They Said)
  4. Runescape - Runescape is awesome! You can do quests, train levels, talk to other players. Not so great graphics though. It's really fun! Try it.(What They Said)
  5. Guild Wars - “Guild wars is a free MMORPG and it is fun, competitive and has brilliant graphics. Buy this game!(What They Said)
  6. Maplestory - “This game rocks, you will love it. It is a game that will make you feel happy relax, and just plain have fun(What They Said)
  7. EVE Online - “EvE Online is, with out a doubt, a somewhat difficult game. Not in the sense that someone will never get used to it, but that its not anything like WoW. EvE is not a game for the immature, childish, or impatient; it takes time to get used to and master. If you?ve gotten tired of WoW I suggest you give this game a try (14 day trial period), you will not regret it.(What They Said)
  8. Lineage 2 - “I thought Lineage 2 Was really fun but Rune Scape sucks and so does Maple story I played them all but I never played an MMO as long as Lineage 2(What They Said)
  9. Dream of Mirror Online - “A game based on relationships, player interaction, and overall community play. Dream Of Mirror Online is the best game for anyone that decides to play with friends, lovers, or even make new friends.(What They Said)
  10. Silkroad Online - “It's an awesome free game. My favourite of all free games. Nice graphic, character details and the skills are nice animated! TOP! (What They Said)

So then they are the online games which are cashing in on the money so does this leave any more time for people to play on other games? Well yes there is apparently as there are free gaming sites which host many hundreds of games on sites like Miniclip.com. Other game producers offer games to download mainly tycoon games like Café Tycoon and games like that.

So What Does This Mean for PC Games?

So what is left for gaming industries to make games for? Well EA are still in the market of PC games mainly from the great life simulation games of “The Sims” and “Sim City” both of these are truly amazing games which are well worth a go on.

Is it just EA that are creating games on this dieing market? Well no, not at all as you still got Microsoft going strong with their amazingly lifelike simulation games of “Flight Simulator” and the recently new “Train Simulator” Once again well worth a look at. Also you have the series of “Age of Empires” which is also great to play.

Another Place the Industries Have Gone…

So then are there anymore Games on the old PC? Well yes there are more games with the like of “Rome: Total War”. So where have all the other great gaming industries gone? Well they are still there but now they could be creating Console games as there is an even bigger market there! The likes of Microsoft (Creators of Xbox) have seen the potential and since then their profits have been booming! Since Microsoft first brought out the first Xbox in 2001 they have experienced bigger profits but don't forget it isn't just the Xbox that has done this as they are also bringing out new things for the PC like Windows Vista. The Gaming publishers Activision have also made a leap into the Console market by publishing many; many games like Call of Duty 4 (Go onto here to find out more about Call of Duty 4) So is this good or bad? Well it could be good if they spend their profits into making more PC games or bringing out better games of what they already have.

Conclusion

So all in all, the Computer is becoming little more than a gateway to the internet. Is this good or is it bad? Well only yourself can decide that but me I think it is bad as it will mean that less companies will invest in making computer games meaning the quality will drop but then it is also good as we get lower prices for them as there wont be competition. With the internet side… well it will be much better but more expensive or cheaper? Who knows maybe we will find out soon enough or maybe Microsoft & EA games plus other companies will carry on going. Whatever is going to happen the quality and quantity of games online, PC based and Console base will continually rise higher and higher for the foreseeable future.
