In previous articles we talk mostly about offensive
football. But sometimes, victory is very
difficult to achieved and a draw seems fair enough. In these conditions, defensive football take
important role.
In this article we will talk about our first defensive
football formation the 4-5-1 formation.
4-5-1 formation is very focus to defense and midfield area. In attack, we are realy depend to an
effective counter attack to snatch a goal. This formation is very special for
me, because i won world cup final with Hungary 2-1 over Italy.
In this article we will examine strength and weakness of
4-5-1 formation. Base on our examination, we can decide the best defending and
attacking positions to minimize the disadvantages and maximize our advantages.
In this article, i will use some terminologies that
already explained in previous article entitled "Stone Wall"
Strength Vs weakness
Before we start talk about strength and weakness of 4-5-1
formation, an overview of this formation will be showed below.
--------ST--------
------------------
----AM------AM----
-LM-----CM-----RM-
------------------
------------------
-LB---CD---CD--RB-
------------------
--------GK--------
Strength:
4-5-1 formation has many defenders, and also very strong
in midfield battle. Our RM and LM has a
lot of support from our AM and CM.
Because you only has one striker you must maximize your midefielder
efforts as second line striker. Againts formation without winger, set your RL
and LM to offensive. If you have your AM
or CM as a playmaker set all your CM and AM to free roles. If you have your winger as a playmaker set
bot of your wingers to fre roles.
Weakness:
4-5-1 formation only has one attacker. And because of that you should set him as a
target man. If your striker is fast
enough, order him to always run forward.
And if your striker has good touch and heading abilities compare to
opponets defenders, order him to go for set pieces.
Defending and attacking position
Defending position:
------------------
------------------
------------------
--------ST--------
-LM------------RM-
---AM--------AM---
--------CM--------
------CD---CD-----
-LB-----GK-----RB-
Dont worry about your defend, you have enough defenders
to cover you penalty box. You will have
at least five men in your red area. You
will need to focus more on how to launch a fast counter attack. Using above defending position, your RM and
LM will act as RW and LW. Your CM is responsible to guard the center of your
yellow area and wait for rebound ball.
Both of your AM will replace the positions of your RM and LM. They will guard the side of your yellow area
and supply the ball to your ST, RM, or LM.
Attacking position:
-LM-----ST-----RM-
------------------
----AM------AM----
-LB-----CM-----RB-
-----CD---CD------
------------------
------------------
------------------
--------GK--------
Using above attacking position, you will have at least
three men in enemy red area. You will
have at least five men in enemy yellow area, this will give you alot of
advantage especially when you play pressing style. Both of your AM will wait
for rebound ball in enemy yellow area, and your RB and LB will replace the
position of you RM and LM.
