My Epic Tale of Guitar Hero 3

One band of friends journey to the top of the video rock world, and the fall of a social life outside of it.

I like millions, when asked what they wanted to be when they grow up responded, with “Rock Star!”. This little dream of mine never seemed to faded away as I grew up. even after lifetime of bills introduced me to the real world. As the 80's turned in the 90's then into the days of the iPods. I had watched as a hand full of people lived the dream touring the world “Rocken Out” as the generation from the 70's called it.

And as I turn to look at my aged, neglected body in the mirror, I had come to terms with two things. One, that I will not be the next leather pant wearing Rock Idol. Two, The Atkins diet doesn't work. Yet a resent visit to my local Video game retailer put hopes in my heart and put me on a fast track to the top of Rock world. I am referring to RedOctane's “Guitar Hero 3” an additive video game, coming with a guitar shaped controller. The object of the game is simple. Hit the colour buttons on the guitar when the game tells you too, and if hit them on time they play popular rock tracks. It's like the love child of Simon says and the Air guitars but with out the copy write infringements of today.

This simple concept interested me a lot. So I hunted down a copy of the game and invited a few of my friends over, promising them at the very least a fun night. It starts out with you having to choose a band name. We all thought it would be fitting to name ourselves something along the lines of “ The Flaming Accountants” due to the career most of us were in.

You pick a name for your band, Then you choose a character you wish to play as, then the difficulty level. We picked easy due to the simple fact we were not kings of Rock (yet.) After a little wile of playing I had become pretty good at the game. The stories is as complex as you might expect, you join a band and rock to the top. As you play songs, you get points that allow you to buy new guitars and songs. The only problem I had with this game is that we beat it in a day in easy mode.

But the life after the game is hard, and it took it's toll on all of us. After that night my friends and I become obsesses with the game, finding we talked about playing it at work, during lunch and even thinking about it in our dreams. I felt a need to get better at this game sooner; my friends and I devoted a few weeks to the game. Until we felt we have proven to the virtual world and one another that we are true rock stars. Then I turned off the game system with the screaming crowds and smiled, thinking; it was a good time when it lasted.

I left my rocker days behind me, The money points, the fans, and the being the envy of my peers. But the pizza and the long nights took their toll on me, and I thought it was time to return to my quiet life as an Account once more.

But my simple life was short lived. I was surprised with an early Christmas preset today from my girlfriend, “Guitar Hero 80's”. And I hear the call of the leather pants once more. Maybe “The Flaming Accountant's” owe the fans a reunion tour.
