Starting Out Easy
My first tip is to start on easy if you have never played the game before. Once you beat the game on easy move up a level and after that another level til you get to expert. Now if you are stuck on a song the first thing you should do is to play the same song but one difficulty lower, and play that until you master it, then move up.
Know When to Play
Obviously to get better at guitar hero you should play as much of it as possible, but don't play for too long or that will just make your fingers hurt and you will play worse. I find it that I am my best at guitar hero after a week break and then start playing it again.
Practice, Practice, Practice
Just keep practicing. Practice a song on expert on slowest then turn it up to slower then slow then finally play it ful speed and if you still get stuck at a certain spot just practice that spot on the slowest a couple times and you will have it in no time.
