Many people say RuneScape is better than World of Warcraft. Here are my opinions of the games, having played both.
RuneScape
- Slow boring traveling, you can only run for a given period of time.
- When you die, you only keep three items in your inventory and have to slowly travel to your grave to recover your lost items that is if it hasnt broken and someone looted you.
- Leveling is boring. Click the target, walk over to him, and just sit and watch.
- PvP is okay. I personally liked Castle Wars, Clan Wars, and Fist of Guthix. But World PvP was taken out of the game so the wilderness is just like a place to explore.
- PvE is also okay. Pest Control was fun but besides that everything else was boring.
- End Game content, NONE. Oh ya there is SOMETHING, a cape. A cape that does a lame emote... although the quest skill cape emote was somewhat cool.
- Quests were fun in Runescape actually. Quests could range from 10 minutes long to more than a few hours.
- Cost is $5 but Runescape does offer some good content for the F2P worlds.
- Highest combat level you can get to is 124 or 126 or something around there, and highest skill level is 99.
World of Warcraft
- Traveling is quick and fast. On foot you alway run, and never run out of energy. At level 30 you cant a mount that boosts your speed by 40%, level 60 you get a 100% speed mount, and when you hit 70 you can FLYING mounts for the Outlands that increase your speed by 40%, I forget how fast the epic mount was, and 310%.
- When you die you lose... NOTHING! You armor loses durability but you can repair it easily for a small sum.
- Leveling is fun. You have an experience bar so you can easily tell when you will level up. Killing things is fun because you have many class specific abilities you can learn when you level up. Also there are talents which you get when you level up that improve your abilities.
- World of Warcraft is primarily based around PvP. There is 1v1 duels, 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5 arenas, and 15v15 and 40v40 battlegrounds, each with their own goals. For instance, Warsong Gulch is capture the flag, in Arathi Basin (my fav) your objectives as a team is to capture and hold as many resources as you can, Alterac Valley's objective is to kill the opponents leaders and bases, and Eye of the Storm, which is almost like all of these combined.
- World of Warcraft also is based on PvE. There are many dungeons in the game, including 5-man instances, and 10,25, and 40-man raids.
- There is so much end game content, including daily quests, raids, PvP, boss encounters, etc.
- Quests in World of Warcraft are normally killing things and collecting items. For instance, I can get a quest that says "Go to the Eastern Plaguelands and kill 5 Skeleton Champions." The rewards include experience, money, weapons/armor, and reputation with the faction you are questing for.
- Some say $15 is expensive but not really. If it is too expensive play on a private server which is FREE and most servers give you instant level 70 with lots of epic gear.
- Highest level you can get to is 70 and professions level can get to 375.
Please feel free to leave your opinions. I dont hate Runescape, and I think its the best browser-based RPG out there, but I still think World of Warcraft is just mind blowing!
