How to Make a Better RPG

Tips on how to make a better RPG.

First of all, rpg stands for Role playing game.

Requirements to create a text based RPG:

You will need to know the following scripting languages:

  • PHP ( www.php.net )
  • HTML ( www.w3c.org )
  • CSS ( www.w3.org/Style/CSS )
  • JAVASCRIPT( only if you want to advance on the basics)

You will need an online host and a TLD(top level domain) name also known as a website.

In addition you will also need to rent or buy a dedicated server if you're considering that your rpg get around 5000 visitors daily within the first 6 months of creation.

NOTE: ** I will not provide coding for your RPG **

If your looking to buy a dedicated server then look for ones with 1028mb at first but then upgrade if needed. Tip: Dont rent a dedicated server within the first 2 months of your rpg creation as you won't need it because you won't get as many visitors as you will later next year.

Use google adsense or yahoo publisher networks to earn money from your logged in users clicking on those ads. You might earn $.25 per click with adsense within the first 6 months

Tips

  • Add new function weekly on monthly to get visitors coming back to your site.
  • Use google adsense or YPN to gain money
  • Don't rent a server which has 8000mb of RAM if you only have 500-2000 users. For this you might need 2048mb of RAM(Random accessed memory)
  • Advertise your site on Yahoo ads for 1 month then cancel you with then have gained enough visitors for them to persuade their friends to join your RPG.
  • Have an invite page where users can invite other cyber friends.
  • Make sure your game is hard. This will ensure you that half your visitors will login twice after sign up.I have played games that are too easy and get boring because it's easy to level up.
  • Have a leveling and a PMS(private messaging system) so your users can interact with each other and send email simutaniously.
  • This emailing should be done with a SQL database.
  • Open all ads in a new tab or new window so users don't navigate away from your site.
  • Use mailing list to email your users atleast 1 a month. This will drive your registered users back to your site.
  • The more you do the more you get. That's what i say.
  • Use advertising on your site to get paid. Then you can pay off the server bills.
  • Use contact forms so visitors (non-logged users) can contact you any time they wish. NOTE: Remember to actually login to your contact email address to see if anyone has contacted you.

Add different content to your websites because some users who get bored easily and play the same kind of game all the time will probably leave your site. When i first created my rpg i planned it out on a file manager system like the one Cpanel contains this will help you to write your script online. The more you do the more you get is my saying simply because of the fact users are interested in cool new functions which other text/web based rpgs don't allow you to do.

TIP: Add your website to a rpg game rating system like http://www.toprpgames.com

This tip could get you nearly 50 sign ups a day after the first month if your graphics and layout is good. If you have some spare time ask other people on forums you've joined and seek their opinion on your site and layout .Ask them to check though for grammar/spelling errors. This will show your users that your site have been carefully designed and made with absolute precision

Persuade other online cyber friends to join and ask them to refer some of there friends and ask their friends to refer some of their friends so you will probably get loads of people joining if you think wisely.

Remember ** think before you do ** that way you can't go wrong.
