Flashback Game: Tales of Phantasia

The first 16 bits Game Console RPG which actually using song for opening scene and voice acting at the battle system (while the other can’t).

What makes me review this old Super Famicom game? Because this game is the first and the last two RPG (the other one is Star Ocean, minus the song) ever created for Super Famicom with voice acting and real opening song! For your information, 16 bits game console got very limited sound hardware.

Tales of Phantasia featured opening song “Yume wa owaranai” (The dream that never ended), sung by Yukari Yoshida. And in battle mode, you'll hear the characters are screaming and yelling their moves, skill, or magic. Even not as famous as Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger during than time, but this game surely showing it own interesting stuff. Wolf Team really did pushing Super Famicom hardware into the limit that no one able to do the same.

In game, you'll meet Yukari Yoshida NPC who talking about her song, you can ask her to sing the OST. Or you could enter a house with a kid and his dog inside, the kid said the dog can sing. And yes indeed, the dog actually barking “Yume wa Owaranai” song.

The reason why this game never got English language release for SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) because contain some mature jokes, which is not suitable for all ages. (That time, game is always considered for kids).

This game also the very first RPG that causing bruise on my thumb, what can I say, this game battle system force me to banging the button just like I play fighting game.

Thought never released for SNES, Tales of Phantasia already remake for Playstation (Yume wa Owaranai song also get new recording with different singer and tempo), Game Boy Advance and even for PSP.

Since the popularity also crossing out side Japan, an unofficial translation is made by DeJap by hacking the ROM data, and every Tales of Phantasia's fan are being happy because of this (and I replay it again to know the detail of the story).
