There are very few free online multi-player role playing games that have the graphics and quality of the games that are paid for. Deicide: The War Against Evil, is one of those few games; it has a higher quality of graphics and sound than many of the free games like Conquer Online. It does take a while to download and install, but it's worth the wait. Loading in the games also takes longer and the whole files takes up a good chunk of memory, as many games do.
Game play is a little hard to understand if you don't read the player's guide on the website first. Learning the controls and getting used to the game takes a little while longer then some other games as well. There is always music playing while you play the game, and it doesn't change depending on the actions you are performing. Since it is the same song over and over it does tend to get annoying and sometimes distracting. The viewpoint for Deicide is you are looking down on your character, and you can decide on how far away the camera is by moving the roller in the middle of your mouse, or the arrow keys. This viewpoint can make it hard to play the game if the camera is too far away from the character.
Many rpg's have NPC's (non player characters) to help learn the game, but this one gives you a guide called May to follow you and answer your questions and generally gives you information about the game until you reach level 10. You can also turn this feature off if you want. It takes a little longer to level then most games, again it's hard to understand the leveling if you don't read the website first. You cannot choose a class until you have leveled the skills needed for the class, most of the other mmorpg's a player can choose the class during the character creation stage. There is a map in the corner of the screen, but it's not as helpful as it should be, and you cannot turn it off like you can in other games. While leveling you have no real way of determining whether or not the monsters are your level or not.
The website itself is easy to navigate and find the things you want, but it's a little hard to read and understand. It's set-up like most game sites with links on the side and news information in the middle and screen shots on the other side. There are still some features that you cannot access like the FAQ section of the site nor the hacking report section. The color of the text and the color of the site background are slightly the same color so they blend into each other causing you to have to almost squint to see what the site it telling you. Also there are a lot of grammatical errors, which makes you believe English is not the primary language of the game.
With any game there are advantages and disadvantages, Deicide: The War Against Evil is no different, and it may not appeal to everyone. It's a newer game that has some bugs that need to be worked out. It's worth the try and see how it suits you.
