Contact

Review of the Nintendo DS game, Contact.

I learned about this game quite by accident. And it all happened the day I was searching the amazon.com website for another Nintendo DS game, Hotel Dusk Room 215 to be specific.

And after reading the many reviews on the amazon site about this Contact game, combined with having a great weakness for RPGs, I thought I would give it a try, providing, of course that I could find a copy of it at any of the local Gamestop stores. Luckily, I did and what I found here is indeed a great game.

Your part here is to assist a Scientist/Professor into tracking down "cells" for his ship that have been scattered throughout the world in the game. And Nintendo makes good use of the dual screen the Nintendo DS is equipped with here and nicely done too.

For there is also a pet on board. A little, lovable pup known as Mochi, who after a bit of training and petting, can assist you on the game's battlefields. And every now and again, the Professor will communicate with you through a series of audio beeps. Just look at the top screen for any new messages from him.

Another striking feature I came to like about this game are the costumes you find or "steal" along the way. Each one you wear enables you to acquire and use different abilities especially when facing a boss or multiple enemies. For example, the cuisine outfit enables you to cook and the Aqua outfit lets you use a tech skill known as "trickle." The unique use of decals here also makes the game sort of different.

When you battle an enemy for a cell, you seal mentioned cell by peeling off a decal with your Nintendo DS stylus and sticking it on the cell. And throughout the game, there are other decals you come across. Like if you want Mochi, the pup to assist you, you simply peel of the decal for that and stick it somewhere on the screen and he shows up.

And at certain intervals in the game if you want a quick trip back to the ship, just use the ship's decal for that purpose. But all in all, I would say this is an RPG any lover of the genre would find interesting and as with any RPG, you have to build up your levels and experience here and if you enjoy playing this game, that too can be fun.
