Travian Guide

For those that have never heard of Travian, it is a browser based game where you build up a village and build up armies and pit your might against others online, raiding, attacking, catapulting until you become No.1.

In Travian there is no sure quick way to becoming successfull, it's hard work and gradual building that eventually takes out the surrounding villages, at the start you get the choice to become a Roman, Teuton or Gaul. Depending on your gameplay depends on what race you choose.

Teutons

If you are an aggressive player and want cheap troops that can raid the enemy then this is the race for you. Dodging attacks is the better option for teutons as defence is low and an army of 300 macemen can be wiped out easily by any cavalry unit with as little as 20 horsemen you wont have a 300 macemen army for long although spearmen and paladins do put up resistence in later game.

Gauls

Gauls are the defenders of the game and whilst hitting a wall of phalanx no army would be able to stay alive. So if you are just part-time player and want to stay defended then gauls are the way to go. Although gauls have a pretty good offensive eventually with the Theutates Thunders that can quickly raid as they have the speed, these are the fastest units in the game. Also at the start of the game trappers are a good start as they can trap attacking troops so they do not effect you, but eventually as the armies begin to grow trappers become useless as 200 trapped when people are sending 5000 is not much point.

Romans

This race has good offence and defence. Pretty much even, they can also make 1 resource and 1 town building at the same time so are a perfect choice for beginners. Pretaurians are the preferred defenders and imperians are the attackers of a roman army, althought the troops are very expensive in iron and clay.

Strategy

There is no set way of being the best but the key to it all is armies. Please remember its not the population that scares you from attacking a player, its the 10000 army that they can send back to destroy you. So never bother about what level what building is, just if you need it, build it and if not build troops.

Raiding is the best way of getting resources, you can raid other villages around you and make 10x more resources an hour than you can produce in your own village. But this all takes time, so if you are a mega active player then you are perfect for constant raiding.

Build up 50% army and 50% resources at the start. Although at the start raiding is a good way to build up but what happens if all your troops get wiped out? "Your stuck thats what." so a good ecconomy to build your armies back up quickly is a must as the longer you are undefended or not attacking the longer everyone else has to build up there armies and conquer you.

Farms

A Farm is a player that just wont build up any armies whatsoever and will just let people take there resources then whinge about it in game messages.

If you do not wish to become a farm you must have an army, and if you are constantly being raided so that you cant build up any sort of army (and it can be hard) then build up crannies lvl 10, even if you have 5, 6, 7, crannies aslong as your resources are safe and the people attacking you arent getting anything then they will eventually stop. Move your second village out of the way and rebuild in that location. Remember you can only choose which area you are in not the exact spot the server lands you and if you have been landed right next to a really experienced player then you are going to be farmed.

Remember raiding is a part of the game and although someone may have a population of 3000 but they still need resources and will constantly pick on small new villages as easy pickings, this is not bullying and probably don't mean to offend you but you are an easy source of a few hundred resources here and there (Just remember the above and you'll be ok). "DON'T MESSAGE THEM WITH A NASTY LETTER....". This will result most probably in being catapulted which will lower your buildings and give you a zero population village, always be nice and humble and hey they might even help you along. (Yes there are the odd nasty player that just wont stop but crannies up and move is better than a restart)

Note: (Last player that was nasty to me I demolished there town so they had to delete there account, then they messaged me on there new account so I had friends demolish that one too). So remember long time players have friends dotted all over the map.

Gold is good but not a must, a player can become large without gold but it just takes longer. I dont use gold but I am up there with the gold users because I build up armies and only use them when needed. If someone is targeting you remember the first few attacks are usually just troops and dodging these are a must which gives the other player a false sense of security, then they send in the catapults and your troops should have returned by then and you can easily defend. This then upsets the other player but without anymore catapults can do little about it.

Select your alliance wisely, although being in the top alliance will scare off most people you will be targetted by the bigger armies as other alliances want to be that top alliance. That being said if you choose a lower alliance then you don't get that scare tactic of others not raiding you as they may get reprisals from the whole alliance. Remember working together is key to success. 1 village alone wont do much damage but 60 villages all working together can take out 1 village at a time, also most alliances dont care about village populations or how many villages you have, they are more interested in the size of your army as this means you can help defend attack or just secures you from being a farm.
