As the tips are in no particular sequence,
it doesn't matter when you read them or in
what order.
I'm striving to give a "seat of the pants"
experience for Newbies who are not using
Scripts, ("Helpers").
I do not advocate the use of these Helpers.
Firstly, as a new player, you would not
have the experience to know what the Helper
was helping you do.
Secondly, as modern Helpers virtually play
the game for you, what is the point?
Tip Fourteen
The Star Dock, the most important Dock
in the game, has a number of features;
Some are not listed.
(B) is a Singles Bar..nothing much, but
(U) is Underground, where you MUST go
to become Evil.
You get the "password" to enter the Underground
from the Grimy Trader in the Back of the Tavern
(T). The default is "Beware of Kal Durak".
If you are not the first person to reach the
(U)nderground, the password, has been changed
and the only way to get it is via The Grimy
Trader. You must go to the (T)avern, ask him
and pay him his bribe.
Make sure you don't have much cash on you
when you approach him as he's greedy.
There is a game called Tri-Cron in the
(T)avern you can play while waiting for
the ten turns you get every hour.
Fifteen
Sometimes you've forgotten how many turns
you have left. You may see a warning:
"Ten Turns Left".
Don't panic.
Every hour you get ten more turns.
If you can't get to your Homeworld or
Fed Space you will have to hang around
until you do get the turns.
If you're at the Stardock, now's the
time to Explore it.
Put all your money in the Bank (G) so you
won't get robbed by pushing X, Y, Z, and
a few other unused keys.
Remember, many Sysops "tweak" their games.
You won't know unless you take the chance.
Standardly;
Once you have entered the Stardock, (P)
(S) pressing (H) brings you to (H)ardware
where you buy scanners, Genesis Torpedos, etc.
Pressing (S) takes you the Shipyards where
you sell your ship, buy a new one, or the
usual "0" port goods.
(G) is the Bank where you put your money.
(L) is the Library. Some Sysops don't utilize
this, so you won't get any info. Others write
interesting scripts.
(M) is the Movie theater.
(P) is the Police Station where you can post
a Reward or Apply for a Federal Commission.
In Mid Game, that is after you've gotten
enough credits to buy a ship that can
hold a Transwarp Drive, you go after
Ferrangi.
The good/evil alignment points have a purpose.
For those playing Good, one thousand points
are needed to gain a Federal Commission.
The use of a Federal Commission is that you
can Warp directly to positions in Federal
Space without needing a fighter there as
a "beacon."
Even if you have reached only 300 good
alignment points by killing Ferrangi, you
might still get a Fed. Com. which will jack
your alignment to 1000 good points.
If you fall beneath that level, you will
NOT be able to Transwarp to Fed Space,
and will blow up.
Pressing "I" periodically when you are in
your ship is vital. Check your alignment,
your turns, what you have on board, your
fighters, your shields.
Stay conscious. Most players get killed
or lose value by a break in concentration.
