Runescape vs. Dragonfable

The guide to help you decide which way to play.

Now this article is about something my friends have been debating for some time, which is better, runescape or dragonfable? RS or DF? Jagex or Artix? Postie Pete or Twilly? Zezima, or Zhoom?

This will all be discussed in the following.

Now, as you can see, because of the beginning of this article, that I play both games. Now, first I want to state that I am more partial to runescape, but I must be fair in my discussion. I will discuss the things one has over the other.Alright, now when playing either game for the first time, you realive the first difference, the graphics. Dragonfable has awesome artwork, including the characters, armor and weapons, while runescape has chunky, pixel-ey figures and uniform weapon and armor shapes, the only thing changing is the color. So for initial looks…Dragonfable wins, personally I never thought a games entertainment capacity was determined only by how pretty the characters look, but that's beside the point. Jagex does have reasons for the way the game looks, mostly because of the fact that the player can move in 3 dimensions and that for 2d dragonfable looks are not hard to achieve when the player is 2 dimensional, although realistic details have not been sacrificed, and it is far from a 2nd person player, while runescape is very much a 3rd person game (none of this is a bad thing, I'm just stating how the gameplay works in either game).

Now, another thing I have noticed about Drgaonfable is that 90% of the releases have to do mainly with new monsters to fight, (the things that are not fighting are smithing and alchemy, which are still lightly related to combat) but with runescape there is hours of leisurely play to be found in non-combat activities, such as farming, fishing or construction, so whaen it comes to elaborateness, runescape wins, this is not to say that dragonfabe is boring or linear, but only that runescape has a bit more to it, mainly because it has been around for a few years longer. One obvious difference is that in dragonfable, the only other visible players are non-player-characters, or npcs while in runescape you may talk to people around the world, through private and public chat. As well as computer-generated npcs, So as far as socializing, and talking to your friends free of charge, runescape wins hands-down. Now as far as the Npcs go runescape has thousands, some pointless, others play a large part, in dragonfable, almost every npc plays a part in the entire storyline, all of them looking colorful and inticate in design. After playing both games for a while I have noticed another difference, the size. Runescape has miles of landscape differing in foliage, people and wildlife, Dragonfable, with it's new releases has new landscapes, but they are quite similar to one another, a weapon shop, an inn of some kind, and a main npc that assigns quests and gives advice, such as zhoom in the sandsea, captain blackberry in osprey cove, and ash in falconreach so runescape wins in landscape diversity, dragonfable has a well-made environment, but runescape's is hard to beat.

Quests is another thing I will touch down upon, quests on dragonfabe are often simple, kill all the monsters, find the boss, listen to the conversation and defeat it in order to win, and in rare occasions, just watch a cutscene, quests in dragonfable can usually be redone. Quests in runescape are often far more difficult, sometimes having to cross great distances and fight strong monsters, while any quest in dragonfable can be started by anyone (though completion is questionable and they sometimes reqire past quests to start) quests in runescape often take much more time and certain levels or higher to start or complete, as well as many objects and past quests, but the rewards often include something extra while dragonfable quest rewards include only what you obtained in the quest, and possibly a weapon or piece of armor while runescape quest can offer extra gold and experience. Combat is the main thing disputed between the two games, Which is more realistic, one thing that can be said about dragonfable is that each individual character looks more realistic, but the combat itself looks a bit silly to say the least, the player charges forward, does a jump attack, or other attack depending on the chosen attack and backs up a few feet to let the enemy attack keyword: “let the enemy attack” which makes combat slightly unrealistic. Runescape's monsters and characters look a bit unreal, but the combat is not turn based, weapon speed is chosen by the weapon, and traveling and combat are in the same plane, where the player can fight or run without the aid of special armor.

for all haters of runescape, your biggest reason for putting it down is about to be blown out of the water, this summer in 2008 there will be some serious graphial improvements made so that it will look so amazing, it'll shut you haters up forever! personally, I dont want to say I like either more than the other, but I hate RS Flamers more than DF Flamers because they have stupid reasons, I mean really, you shouldn't hate a game for bad grphics.

dragon fable is a poorly done flash, anime, artix rpg. 2d grphics, wierd animations,20$ for memship, and no communications/lack of content makes this a very bad choice. runescape may not be perfect, but cheap memship, 3d graphics, global chat, and good quests/lots of skill& content makes this a way better choice. graphics update will be even better, now time for ratings.
dragonfable: graphics-2.1/10 content(quests skills ect.) 1.2/10
community-0/10 fun-1.4/10 cooperation(company,effort,updates, memship. ect.) 0.4/10 overall 1.2/10

runescape: graphics- 6.1/10 content-8.8/10 community-7.2/10
cooperation-6.9/10 overall 7.3/10

that is my opinion.

honestly, i dont know how any of you can like dragonfable, its not really a good game, you cant really invest your time, there's only 1 thing to do, fight, and you cant talk to ppl, its got 2d graphicsand the only reason it looks batter than runescape is cuz its 2d and not 3d making it incredibly easy to make good artwork, im not saying i hate it, but if i had to pick one game to play for the rest of eternity, theres no chance in hell id pick dragonfable, not to say id enjoy an eternity of runescape, but at least you could talk to people and have good company, and not go insane reading npc speach bubbles. dragonfaable is entertaining, but the ability to talk to, compete with, and have a lot of fun with your best friends, but on dragonfable the pvp is lame giving 0 xp and gold and is merely just another round of repetitive and useless combat plus, you can only have a set amount of items on DF, but nearly limitless on RS and all of you that say runescape is bad and dragonfable is good, i havent seen you give a single reason, Why? because there is no reason.
