Yeah, it's true. Bots held the RuneScape economy together.
Think about it. When we had bots, logs were cheap. Rune essence could be bought from general stores at 1 gold piece to maybe three gold pieces a throw - easy and cheap for new players to level up with. Logs and fish were widely available - thanks to bots. Yup. The produce that the bots produced and then sold was what basically held the Runescape economy together. Prices were kept low, supply was high, which generally kept everyone happy. The bots, or rather the players that used the bots, would soon level up to be able to catch/mine/make/produce more, higher level and more valuable things to sell, and so they would get more money, more respect and would gradually inch their way up the Runescape “property ladder” This all changed with the introduction of the new Runescape changes - read my article on it here.
Overnight, after the changes (dubbed the Ruinedscape transition by some disgruntled players) bots and the players were totally eliminated. The price of Rune Essence sky-rocketed faster than light to 30 coins a piece, (an 300% rise in prices) pricing it out of the range of most lower-leveled players who are now remaining lower levelled because they cannot afford the equipment that will allow them to level up. Cowhides, again sold for one coin in general stores, has experienced a 1000% rise in prices to 100 coins. Same with wool. All three of these are basic commodities - and their prices are rising all the time, with no signs of stopping. Players are bewildered, the bot users have to start from scratch, and the inflation of the economy has soared and is currently hovering around our Solar System. Good luck, Jagex (or Fagex as they are dubbed by some players) You really don't know what you've unleashed by doing this. Runescape may well have reached it's down fall.
And it's all your fault.
