Why Runescape Has Members

I bet you are wondering why Runescape has a members section. I will tell you why.

Years ago (and yes, I am a Runescape vet), the whole world was free. The free world we see was the entire world. Runescape was constantly expanding. People were excited. Servers were spawning everywhere. There use to be around 10 servers. Look at it now.

Jagex wanted to keep expanding; however, they could not afford bandwidth. This is where Jagex had a solution.

They planned to raise about 2000 dollars via Pay Pay. This meant that, if each player had sent in a dollar, they would have got enough money to expand.

But they made about 600 dollars in one month; they were discouraged. They decided to therefore make all future expansions priced. This is how members started

It the classic Runescaper's faults (including my own); this is why it isn't free.

Um.. it's not free because they want to make profit off the game. They have 250 staff working for them. -- you wonder how they are suposed to pay them and make money? Second of all - The game was free wat first to pull in players, then when people played it and liked it -- they expanded it.(members)

^^ The free worlds wouldn't be bigger, because jagex wants members.

P2p exists because jagex ltd is a company and therefore has to make money, if it was all f2p then it wouldn't.

It only releases p2p updates to attract more members.

^^ I can because Jagex would get greedy, and want more, that's what buisnesses do.

But I suppose jagex is quite a down to earth company, but there is still a chance.

Jagex was first to have 1 server, then it expanded to 3 in a couple of weeks. It was a very fast growing game that people liked to play. I believe their first motives were to have people play for free, then ask them to pay (members) later. Those first couple of months in the first place were to work out all of the bugs as well.
Thank you,
