Which Pkers Beat the Competition

Find out which pkers make the cut and which ones, quite frankly, don't. Also, learn what general types of pkers are better at specific levels.

By many people, mages are considered the most powerful types of pkers. However, if you are levels 60+ and have actually fought a mage with fireblast without just running away, you will most likely discover that it's not so bad. Mage pures have complete control over the wilderness, however, from combat levels 3-35 (roughly). From levels 3-20, mages are to be feared, no exceptions (unless you yourself are a mage). From levels 21-35, mages still will generally win, but other pkers still have a chance. Then, other pures begin to develop; rangers begin hitting much more often and meleers put on rune weapons. Combats 36-40 are a grey area; however, mages still win more often.

RANGE REPRESSION

Although range is considered to be one of the weakest combat stats, it really isn't. From level 21, rangers are capable of winning. Adamant arrows make f2p rangers capable of hitting strings of 16s, 17s, and 18s. Being the quickest stat, this can be much more dangerous than a 16 hit by a mage or a 20 hit by a meleer. The ranger's range of terror lasts from 41-60. However, range and melee both cross lines as to which combat stat is truly dominant. In this range of levels, range has only slightly higher a chance of winning. It would be incorrect to go on and say that 61-65 is a grey area just because 41-60 is already in itself a grey area.

STRENGTH SUPREMACY

As the most common form of pking, I give meleers props when it comes to combat levels 60-75. They stomp on mages and most often beat rangers. In these levels, with rune 2h, pot, and pray, it should be no surprise that a meleer easily hits 27. When fighting a pure meleer at this level, do not be surprised if you are kept at low health for a long time; if you eat a lobster every single time without getting any hits in, you may still find yourself getting hit with a string of high numbers.

DEFENSE DOMINATION

Once you exceed level 75, pkers with defense basically own the wilderness. While pures find themselves helpless because they seldom hit, a person with defense can still have very high and effective hits.

WHY NOT MAGE?

At higher levels, mage really can't function. It attacks much slower than range and it's even slower than a scimitar. Since rangers and occasionally meleers are wearing dhide, the mage will seldom hit. Even if the ranger or meleer is not wearing dhide, the mage can hit 16 at max. However, rangers can also be hitting 16s about twice as fast. It should also be noted that melee is at an advantage because it has 2 prayer options (attack or strength), which both can be used before the mage and range prays. Meleers can easily be hitting high numbers against mages. Even against defense, the simple fact that mage grows in power until it runs out of spells to use. This is around combat 35-40. At this point, while mage has about the same effectiveness for the rest of the mage's pking career, a ranger and meleer are still getting better and better. It should be noted that in earlier (3-55?) levels, mages can still beat runers.

OVERALL

I have seen many classes of pkers. To stick to the basic 4 types mentioned above then I would say the effectiveness is in the following order:

  • Pure melee
  • Pure range (but it was close)
  • Defense
  • Pure mage (this was also close)

Now for a more complicated list:

  1. Tribrid
  2. Melee-mage
  3. Range-mage
  4. Melee-range
  5. Pure melee
  6. Pure range
  7. Rune pure
  8. Steel, black pure
  9. Defense meleer
  10. Defense ranger
  11. Mith pure
  12. Addy pure
  13. Pure mage
  14. Tank mage
  15. Defense Pure (One of every combat stat except prayer and defense)
