In the game of Runescape there are scams everywhere. Mostly people in the game just want to take all of your money or your account. I myself have been scammed a couple of times in the game, and have decided to help people avoid this. There are several types of scams:
- Item scamming.
- Account scamming.
- Membership scamming.
Item scamming is when a player tries to trade with you and ends up somehow switching the item he was suppose to give you with a look alike to fool you. The best thing to do to protect against this is to always check the final trade window. If it says something different immediately stop right down the players name decline the trade and report the player. Another way players do this is by announcing that they are selling an item. And have a friend nearby saying they are buying that item for some outrageous price. So you go and rush to by the item from the one person to sell to the other and they refuse to trade, therefore helping there friend make more money then they should have.
Account scamming is when a player some how tries to scam you out of your account. They will tell you anything for you to give them the password to your account. There are some websites where players post that they are buying account. Some of these players will ask for the money first and after you give it to them they will not give you the account. The best way to protect against this is to just not buy an account. It is against the rules and it goes against the whole point of the game. But if for some reason you would like to purchase one make sure you don't have to pay first. It is either your way or the highway.
Membership scamming is a form of account scamming. A player will contact you and tell you that if you give them your password they will make you're a member. Then they will just take your account. Or the player will pretend to be a moderator and tell you they can make you one to. Either way do not believe these people, they are scammers.
One thing I did not mention is people offering auto bots. They tell you they have some and if you give them your pass they will use them on your account to raise your levels these are scammers. Or they will tell you to download there software and that there software can raise your levels or are auto bots. But they really contain key loggers which record your username and password next time you sign into Runescape. I have only found one website with real auto bots, I believe it is the only real site.
