A short look at whether the recent changes to the entire fabric of Runescape could spell the end of the immensely popular computer game.
Recently, Runescape began to change many of the key elements of the game, under the pretext of “stopping Real World Trading, or RWT,” You can read their explanation here.
These involved removing the “unbalanced trade,” when previously, a player could give almost anything to another player without having to receive anything in return. Now, items exchanged have to be worth almost the same amount, with only a leeway of 3,000 coins, or gp. Jagex have also changed the Wilderness, making it impossible to attack other players (except in Clan wars, where no rewards can be gained, and Bounty Hunter, which is only available on one world) and vastly reducing it's size - again, supposedly, to help stop RWT. Players are now refusing to play Runescape and a number of riots have already occurred click here.
For videos of the riots and details of where and why they occurred. Also, prices of basic commodities such as wool, cowhides and rune essence, which was previously priced very cheaply at general stores, have skyrocketed into 100 coins for just one piece of wool, or one cowhide. Rune essence is currently 30 coins a piece, where as before it was 1 coin, causing a 300% rise in prices.
However, not all of the changes angered players. Free to play players were also awarded extra bank space and the ability to play the Duel Arena, which had been previously limited only to Members. Drop parties were also extended to free to play players. Also, a mass trading system known as the grand exchange has been added, click here.
So, would you still play Runescape after Jagex have so blatantly abused the trust of the players, or do you think that it is the end of the Runescape era? Is Runescape Ruinedscape?
