Chapter 1 - Starting Out
Ah, noobs. Or, more commonly, n00bs. We were all level 3s once!
When you are dumped in Lumbridge, you'll be in the "real" RuneScape. First, you'll be wanting to train your combat. This comes before everything else. Go upstairs in the castle two floors to get to the bank. Deposit everything you have into the bank except for your bronze sword and wooden shield.
Now, head east across the bridge and then north. You will see some Cows (level 2) on your right. Your first targets! You will be killing cows, picking up their cowhides and returning to Lumbridge to deposit the cowhides.
Optional: For a head start on your prayer skill, bury the bones as well.
In the upper-right hand corner there are two crossed swords. Click on this and select the option Lunge.
You'll need to kill about 100 cows on Lunge mode to reach level 11 combat. This will bring you about 10k (10,000gp) if you sell the cowhides at Al-Kharid (south-east). You're now Level 10 attack, strength and defence.
Use this 10,000gp to buy full black armour and a black sword. You should have about 2k left over. You can buy these from players, the Grand Exchange (west of Varrock) and from various shops.
Chapter 2 - Intermediate Noobistry
Q: Why is RuneScape a racist game?
A: White knights are good and the black knights are bad!
You're level 11 - you're an intermediate noob (newbie).
What do you do now? Put away your sword. It's time to mine! Go to the nearest bank (probably Lumbridge). Withdraw your bronze pickaxe and equip it (click on it).
Head north to one of the south Varrock mines (see the map - it is north of Lumbridge).
Here, mine copper and tin and then bank it. When you've got a good, equal amount (128 of each) head down to Lumbridge and gradually smith it. This means going to the furnace (the big fireplace to the north) and clicking on the furnace, selecting "Bronze" 10 Bars. Then head north to Varrock and head to the Anvils on the western side.
Make Bronze stuff here.
Now it's time for fishing and cooking. Grab your fishing net and head to any fishing spot. Fish everything you can and bank it. Once you've got a big amount cook it!
Try this with each of your skills until they're all Level 20.
Now it's combat time. Kill some more cows until you're level 20 (using the same routine as before) and then head to Al-Kharid to kill some Al-Kharid Warriors in the castle west of the bank.
Continue until you're Level 30 combat.
Chapter 3 - Advanced Noobistry
It's time to complete some quests. Here's a list of the free-to-play quests you should now complete.
- The Knight's Sword
- Prince Ali Rescue
- Goblin Diplomacy
- Rune Mysteries Quest
Optional
- Sheep Shearer
You can find quest guides for these all around the internet.
Now you've completed the Rune Mysteries Quest you can mine rune essence. Go to Varrock and mine rune essence. Sell it for 30gp each. Do this until you've got loads and loads of cash and buy full mithril with a mithril longsword.
Train combat until you're level 40.
Chapter 4 - Beginner Intermediate
Train all of your important skills (e.g. mining, fishing, etc.) up to level 40.
From here I can't help you. It's up to you where you go from here. You could train mining to get into the mining guild, you could become a member... it's all up to you.
However, I would like to suggest that before you go members, you read my other guide, Before You Go RuneScape Members. This goes through all the experience you'll need before you shell out the money.
Good luck!
