In here I will tell you what some people do, trying to get your Runescape account or even hack (crack, flood with troyans and viruses) your computer.
I've seen other Anti-scam guides. What's so good in this one?
All Anti-scam guides, I've seen so far just say “Don't give ANYONE your password, don't download ANYTHING from these sites, If a person says so, then he/ she probably will scam you…
In this guide I will try to explain what tactics are these people using and why you shouldn't trust them. As one Great Person, I don't Remember (GPIDR) said - “Know your enemy.”
But I hate JAGEX! Being not a member is so hard! All members call you a noob, and these messages: You can use this skill in member's world only, You can go there only if you are a member only, Member only! Member only! Member only! This stuff is driving me CRAZY!!! I can't take it anymore. I've got no money, or I don't want to pay so much! I've gotta become a member for free!!!
I understand, what you mean, these messages are really annoying, but that doesn't mean that you must give you computer to the first stranger, who offers something for free. You are the person, they are looking. Don't take the offer, before looking carefully through it, or else you will become even crazier.
What do they say, you have to do:
Send you Username and Password to their E-mail, because they have found a way to hack(crack) Runescape and make and make anyone a member, or create any item. This doesn't work so often. Another version of that is that is that they have found a way to override their server and you must send to an address like this to make you think that this is some kind of a programming language:
“3461566$%%@$%^^main_srvr###235uyutr86664^&*%@hotmail.com, or to 3461566$%%@$%^^main_srvr###235uyutr86664^&*%@msn.com e.t.c. a message, containing text like this: 4466#^^%$$@#@ovvrrd%$####***$$mbrm(Your username)ffij*&$###838908*##(Your password)$$$R#@@%.
They simply want to use your account, and that's why they say “…and make sure that you are at least lvl 50, so that I would know that you are a real player, not a noob”.
Well even if someone would hack (crack) Runescape, they would need your username make you a member or give you an item, maybe they would need your level, but they surely would never need your password. Your password is only for receiving access to your character with all player's limitations. The JAGEX doesn't know your password and they don't need it. They've got a database where all the characters and all the data about them, including items they have and if they are members or not. The passwords only let's you or anyone else play with the character, not edit it. This way of scamming is usually used on forums, or sometimes even websites are created.
Give their character a huge amount of money (depends on how are they experienced). Well this is completely not logical! If they have cracked Runescape, and can create stuff in the game, why do they need your money? Sometimes they ask for rare items if you've got some.
Download some kind of program. Now about programs. There are so-called autominers and like them, which let your character automatically mine, fish, or do things like that, because it's pretty boring to do that by yourself, however JAGEX is hunting them down right now. But there is no program that allows you to hack Runescape. The hacker/cracker would need to change the JAGEX database, and any program needed for that would need someone with an expert programming skills, there can be no easy to use programs of this kind. These are usually made to get a virus into your computer or something like that. Of course you can try it anyway, find out, it's a virus, the use your antivirus and save the computer, but who would want to lose so much precious time?
Things, they say to make you less suspicious:
Please don't be so stupid to let this trick you.
- The JAGEX server is scanning everything, so the hacker(cracker) can't do this right now, you'll have to wait a couple of days or weeks.(Which is time, he needsto lose all contacts with you).
- Trying to convince you that he/she is an experienced programmer, by talking about programming and saying many programming terms. Here's the Evolution of this:
At first one scammer said “Hello I'm a hacker and I've managed to hack Runescape please send me your username and password to get free membership”
Then one forum visitor said to him “Ha, you damn scammer, you know nothing about that! This is called cracking. You are stupid.”
Later the same or another scamer posted on the other forum: “Hello, I can give you free membership. I really can. I know that this is called cracking really. I am a cracker. Please send me your username and password to get free membership”
Then one forum visitor posted “You can't fool me you damn scamer! Go away!”
Later the same or another scamer posted on the other forum:
“Hello I once tried to crack Runescape. It was hard, because it had binary Linux toster databases, but I've finally managed to do that!!! Please send me your username and password to get free membership”
Trying to convince you that al that happened by an accident like that: “Hello, I once was playing/thinking how to hack Runescape, then suddenly I did something and the game restarted and then I've spotted that I'm a member. Please send me your username and password to get free membership”
- For the items duplicating, they sometimes use Photoshop or a program like that to edit screenshots to make you think that they have a full inventory of rare items. Do not trust your eyes.
- Sometimes they say you to ask some of their friends, if they are saying truth or not. This of course is a trap, because their friends will try to help to scam you.
