Runescape

This is a summary of the Runescape playing style and much about the game itself from a member of the gaming community.

Runescape is one of the most easily accessible online games (MMORPG's) available. It normally attracts the younger group of gamers, because younger gamers cannot afford more expensive games.

The truly amazing thing about this game is the fact that it has a free section of non-paying members. Jagex one day hopes that these non-paying players will one day join up to game along side with other members to enjoy later content. The majority of the people who play have at one time been members seeing as how the game costs a mere 5 dollars a month.

Problems:

  1. The game is EXTREMELY repetitive.
  2. There is no sense of group play or a “Group” like on games such as World of warcraft.
  3. It took several years to even get an official way to get a clan/guild feature, and it still is many features behind other games.
  4. The graphics look like something out of a 1980s arcade game.
  5. The game itself is overrun by botters (people who use a 3rd party program to gain skill/items without doing anything).
  6. The game will most likely never see an increased skill cap.
  7. Room for development in the game will get stale and boring once new regions will/could be added.

Great Things About The Game:

  1. There is an excellent storyline that is constantly updated daily on the Runescape website.
  2. The game requires you to be 100% involved at all times or you will log out from the game, which makes room for new people to login.
  3. It is extremely hard for anyone who isn't cheating to AFK somewhere, which clears up the world.
  4. The game has a renaissance feeling to it such as Ultima Online used to have. It does not show stats or bonuses on the armor, you have to know what your wearing and know how to use it and what it does.
  5. There is an amazing PVP environment called the “Wilderness”.
  6. The Jagex staff is very forgiving and has a 10 strike/mark limit before you are banned.
  7. The Jagex staff also involves the player community by initiating something called “Player Moderators”(Pmods) in game members of the Runescape community who have similar rights as the Jagex moderators. Members who help out other players and do not abuse the rules over time get brownie points towards becoming a player moderator.
