Clan Wars was one of the activities that most people do and enjoy in Runescape. Because the wilderness was removed, this is a great alternative you have to satisfy your PKing wants. Clan Wars just got a very awesome update last September 9, 2008. This includes lots of features such as: new arenas, options on how you win the game, optional time limits, restrictions (no food for example), dangerous wars (where a player loses his items when he dies during a war) and the free-for-all portals (safe and dangerous). Read more below to find out more about these features.
Arenas
Listed below are the different arenas you can choose from when playing Clan Wars. A brief description was included and a link to an image of that specific arena.
- Clan Wars Classic - A varied landscape littered with lava pits, crumbled walls and dead trees. Click here for an image of the arena.
- Plateau - A barren plateau rising from a sea of lava. Very few obstacles. Click here for an image of the arena.
- Forsaken Quarry - An abandoned mine featuring low obstacles such as rocks and puddles. Click here for an image of the arena.
- Blasted Forest - A dead forest featuring high obstacles such as trees. Click here for an image of the arena.
- Turrets - Small turrets are scattered around this battlefield. Good for sniping.
How You Win a War
Knock-Out
This option was the option that was used before this update was released. In this option, you need to kill each one of your opposing clan's members or until 5 of them remains (if you choose "Ignore 5" in the Stragglers option) to win. You have two minutes to enter the purple portal once the war was commenced. Players entering the portal after the said time will be put in a secluded area where they are only allowed to watch the on-going war. If the time limit (optional) reaches zero, the clan with the most survivors wins.
Kill-Count
In this option, it's not the number that really counts. In order to win this type of war, you need to reach a specific kill-count or kill the most enemies before the time runs out. Your clan needs a really good strategy, teamwork and a set of powerful warriors to be successful. Once you die during this game, you may leave the portal in the viewing area and re-enter the purple portal to be teleported back into war.
Most Kills at End
This type of war similar to "Kill-Count". To win, your clan needs to achieve a higher kill count than the opposing clan before the time limit reaches zero. You may re-enter the war once you have died.
The Free-For-All Portals
The white portal at the left side is the Free-For-All (Safe) portal while the red portal at the right side is the Free-For-All (Dangerous) portal.

Once you enter one of these portals, you will be brought to a non-combat area at the southern-most side of the arena where you can prepare and meet with your teammates before you proceed north.
There are single-combat and multi-combat areas inside the arena. Beware that if you die inside the Dangerous arena, you will lose your items. Even if you may go back inside to get your items back, do not bring valuable items because you might not get back in time.
