Here are things a Pker/Wanderer; should know. Please though, always be cautious in the Wilderness and think carefully…
If someone is asking you to team up with them, and if they are higher (or 1 Lv below you) than you, it's most likely to be a trick, they'll kill you once you go out too deep. Or, they could lead you into a trap, and have multiple players attack you. Never go into the wilderness with someone you just met. A good friend or someone you have known for a time is a better choice.
Always be wary of Pkers. In the North American Worlds (mainly worlds 1-7, 29, 21, 101, 102), there is at least 10 people that die or are tricked into going into the wilderness, and I would advise Wanderers not to play in those kinds of Worlds. Here is an experience of mine. I was working on Prayer in the Chaos Temple (in a North American world), about every 5 minutes, a group of Pkers or a solo would try to kill me. I log out and enter another world (World 136), and train there. I was not bothered; no Pkers tried to kill me.
In other words, when trying to explore in the wilderness, try to go to any other world(s) beside NA ones; those worlds have many players that tend to be aggressive and crowded to the hull. If you are a ravenous Pker, then feel free to play in Worlds 1-7, which have lots of Pkers about.
If you are walking around, and see another player that has a higher level than you, but doesn't have anything, DO NOT TRY TO ATTACK THEM! They try to fool you into thinking they have no armor/weaps, but when you attack then, they bring out their r2h and start going on a killing spree on you. Also, if you kill someone with nothing (lets say a level 44 n00b) you will get nothing but bones, and the cross will come. In other words, don't kill players with nothing, it's a waste of a kill and will be not as fun as killing someone with something. If you really really really want to kill someone with nothing, please be my guest.
This next tip applies to all Wilderness Players, bring food! If you're a Pker, duh, you need food to heal and to deliver, but if you're a wanderer, food can come in handy for saving your life from bloodthirsty Pkers. I would recommend any type of fish, preferably lobsters, and kebabs.
If you see a high level player that might try to kill you, here are some ways you can avoid getting killed:
- Run towards some trees/ big boulders to shake off the Pker
- Log out immediately if you see somebody or a group on the map (this is the safest, 100% escape unscathed one).
- Or, teleport with some teleportation spells
What to do if you are killed in the wilderness:
If you have Prayer Lv 25 (Protect 1 extra item), hopefully you used it when you died, you will always have your weapon if you died with a cross while using protect 1 ex item.
Don't go back, even though your instincts tell you to
Bottom-line: Bring something you don't mind losing, or if your uber rich, bring your full rune. I would recommend a Rune type of item, Rune scimmys aren't that strong, a Rune longsword is my choice. This is the smart way to PK.
Another trick what I do to PK (It has worked every time to :P), where nothing but have your armor & weaps, and wait for someone to come (Preferably in a NA World). Near the Chaos Alter is a nice place, you can work on Prayer as well as wait for your prey. When a player to comes, act peacefully, and let them have the first strike; so they will get the cross, and you will not. I have killed players 11 levels higher than me by doing this trick. I would advise you to be at least 55~60+ (Lv) to do this.
Also, dangerous creatures as well as player lurk out there, the main places Pkers tend to hang out is Black Fortress, Bandit Camp, Fishing areas, and Demon's Graveyard.
