Runescape is online role playing game. It features good game play and a very free feeling to do what you want in the game. You could try to make money by trading or battle monsters in dungeons. There is no true way to beat the game. Even if you complete all the members quests (I'll explain later) there are ore being made.
Membership is paying around five to seven dollars a month for much more game play and improving through update. With membership you get more items, more area to explore, more monsters to fight, and fun mini games. If you ask it's worth it. Without the membership the game slowly becomes boring.
One complaint may be that the graphics are not good which is true but the game play makes up with more than that.
I don't want to give away much about the quests because that would suck the fun out of the game. You have to have patients and play it to find out how fun it can be.
All in all this is a great game. You need to have patients for when things aren't looking well and tolerance of bad graphics that have been improving.
