Runescape Merchanting

This is going to be a very in-depth guide explaining what merchanting is, how to merchant, and what to merchant, different types of merchanting, and how to make a helluva a lot of money with just a little bit of practice and a little bit of time.

As you may or may not know, there is no way possible for someone to merchant without appropriate stats. So don't go into Runescape thinking you're going to be a level 3 merchant and become rich as hell. Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. What I mean to say is guys, is that you need to level up some sort of moneymaking skills. Whether it be fishing, mining, or woodcutting. Either be able to fish lobs, mine coal (or 1-hit iron ore), or be able to cut yews.

When I first started out in RuneScape, I was level 10 and some 55 showed me around, finally arriving upon Falador Mine Shafts. When we got there, he showed me the places to buy the picks, and the best place to start out mining. I'm gonna say for about a month straight I mined, and got from level 1 to 55 or so, moving around from Falador, to south of Varrock, to even the occasional wildy spots, selling the ores in bulk as I went along.

So, after you've gotten a certain skill that allows you to make a little bit of starting money, I suggest around 500k GP, you are now ready to start merchanting.

What exactly is "Merchanting"?

Honestly, do you ever wonder how the hell those level 50's have their rares? How they have almost below decent stats, if not any good stats but one or two? Doesn't that make you jealous when you see someone in the bank saying something along the lines of: "Spending 10M on Weps and Armor - [INSERTNAMEHERE]"?. Even if you ask what they do to make their money, they'll usually say something like, pk, stake, friend, etc. Most of the time, they are lieing out their ass. Almost every single rich low leveled character does a thing called "merchanting".

Merchanting is solely the buying of a specific or group of the same item, and selling it for more then the bought price. Sounds almost easy as hell right, and obvious too? Well, not easy, in my opinion, if you don't know what you're doing, and keep in mind most high levels will spend that extra 100k to get the item they want then and there. So all you must do is say you buy something in World 1/World 2, then turn around and sell it on the forums for 100k or higher then what you bought it for. This is such a fast way to make cash. So now that you know what it is, let's find out what to merchant.

What items should I "Merchant"?

Allright, well first we'll start with what f2p, (Free-to-play/non-members), shoudl merchant. Well believe it or not, the first part calls for a bit of effort. You gotta scout the forums, and see what the majority of people are buying in a certain section. Personally, I don't do f2p merchanting, since of course I'm a member, but let's use a good example of an item that I used to use alot when I was playing in f2p. Allright, so most people *need* Yews. Whether it be for high leveled firemaking, or the members who want to fletch Yew Longbows so they can sell for more.

Alright, so say you see alot of threads in the Fletching section on the forums "buying" yews, but hardly have any sellers. Well, you get your ass into World 1, and use an Auto Typer, which I have graciously provided for you guys . "See Attachments". Stand right outside of the bank and buy Yews for say 30-50 gp under the price that someone on the forums is buying for. Use your 500k and stand there and just keep the auto typing on normal, meaning so it doesn't look like you're actually using a program, the whole point of it is just so your fingers don't get tired. Say something like: "Buying all noted Yew Logs - [PRICEHERE] - [USERNAME HERE]". Keep doing that until most or all of your money is gone.

Remember to watch the second window, some people change the log or the number. After all you are able to buy has been bought, go sell to that buyer and make a helluva a good profit. It'll take you maybe an hour or 2, depending on the people, to buy 500k worth of logs at like 200 ea. Sell to the dude on the forum at 250 ea.

Calculations:

You bought: 2,500 yew logs with 500k, for 200 ea.You sold: 2,500 yews logs at 250 ea, and made 125k profit. (Now have 625k).You now have more then what you've started with. ^_^.

It's quite possible to merchant without ever leveling anything. F2P can run air runes on World 16 to get their bankroll, then merchant goods, and members can run laws on World 66 to get their bankroll. A merchant may get more respect and business with a high level and/or some skills, but it's not absolutely necessary.

I'm an f2p player, and all it takes is about 50k to get started. You need some skills of any sort to just get the money to start with, and eventually it'll help you in the game anyways..... if let's say you get 50k, you can buy cowhides at 115gp each in the GE, and then you go to Al-Kharid, and just tan them all for 1gp each. You get leather for 116gp each altogether, the price of the cowhides + the price of the tanning. So you spend 116gp on each hide, and you sell them as leather on the GE again, and the price goes up to 165gp. You easily make a lot of cash. Spend 115k on 1k hides, and you get an easy 50k in under and hour.
