Ok, I just want to say, being a member is worth it. However, before you begin, you should know some things. Ya know, what levels you should get to, what you need, etc.
General Benefits:

More and more and more bank space.

About 10 times more areas to travel to. Also all of the Wilderness areas, up to level 50.

New Items: Quest items, weapons, armor, food and more!

More monsters: Wolves, dragons, demons, you name it!

More random events, skills to train, mini-games, duels.

Skills: Free Play level suggestions before becoming a member:

Strength, Attack and Defense at least 60.

Hits: 65

Magic: 65

Range: 50-60

Mining: 60

Crafting: 40

Woodcutting: 60, prefer 75+

Fishing: 68

Cooking: with fishing.

Runecrafting: 44 (Nature runes)

Firemaking: Doesnt really matter, I don't make fires. I usually sell or make them to bows.

Good stock of essences.

Also, good stock of logs.
Armor:
Well if you have level 60 defense. You should get dragon armor and sell your rune. However, dragon armor is far more expensive and if you lose it, then that's not my problem! But if you are a high level, it shouldn't matter. I recommend for level 60-70, stick to rune for a little bit.
And I think you should have A LOT of money, like 400-500k. Around there, you need to be prepared! An obby cape alone costs 200-230k. Not to mention if you want a dragon weapon. If you want money, then I suggest steel bars since they can sell for 600 max. (However, I haven't played in a while so I'm not sure if the price lowered, they probably did though)
