If you made the wrong choices then don't worry, you can go back to the makeover wizard to change your gender and skin color costing 3k (3000gp), you can change your clothes at Thesselias clothes shop in Varrock costing 500gp per cloth part changed. You can change your hairstyle in Falador, at the Barbers which costs 3k(3000gp) per hairstyle change.
I advise becoming a member as many items make you ''look good'' and also being a female character because most items suit mainly only females. There are several ways to choose your style, unfortunately I will only explain member styles which you can configure to suit to non-members.
The first way is following your preferred god getting items such as plate body's, plate legs, kite shields and full helmets. or banners, god books, symbols and capes. For getting gloves and boots I advise white gloves, although red gloves do work if you choose to follow the god: Zamarok
The second way is following a one color scheme eg, white gloves and boots, desert shirt and robe bottom, white beret and legends cape. This is a very cheap way to look good. However it will not get as many looks or "free items" as other looks will.
The last is going for a look that will also protect you , this is possibly the most and least expensive option, you could go for full dragon, full infinity or lunar, or just simply full bronze.
