Runescape Farming Guide

Feel like you don't belong in urban areas? Then pick up farming by reading my guide!

Farming is a member's skill, so if you're not a member or ever planning to become a member, then don't read this guide (it's a waste of time if you're neither). If you don't want to buy your seeds, then I suggest you check out my Runescape Guide to Thieving before this one.

Things to have before beginning:

  • Rake
  • Spade
  • At least 500 gp
  • Seed dibber
  • At least 3 watering cans (8) or 1 with 2 buckets of water
  • 4 buckets of compost

All of these items can be purchased at the nearest farming store or local farmer. The only things you need that aren't listed are seeds. At the very beginning, get some potato, onion, tomato, and marigold seeds. All of these can be stolen from the seed stall or master farmers.

Level 1-23:

Find a full farm (there's one at Catherby and one at Falador). Rake the patches and put the weeds in the compost bin. Then use the compost on the patch. Plant potatoes and stay with them, watering when needed (there should always be a puddle) until level 2. (If you have no use for the potatoes, then put them into the compost bin.) Then, plant marigolds in the flower patch. Never pick the marigolds, as they ward off disease for potatoes, onions and tomatoes.

Now, you can either leave the patches after you've planted the seeds or you can stay with them. It takes an average of 35 minutes for potatoes, onions, and tomatoes to mature. After filling the compost bin, close the lid and wait anywhere from 45-70 minutes for the compost bin to rot.

Level 23-47:

Get some sweetcorn seeds and 3 bronze spears, empty sacks, and watermelons. Use the empty sacks on bales of hay, then use the sacks of hay on the bronze spears, then put the watermelons on top of the finished product. Use the scarecrows on patches where you plant sweetcorn to keep them healthy. Again, you can leave the patches or you can stay with them.

Level 47+:

Get some watermelon and nasturtium seeds. Plant them both. When the nasturtiums are fully grown, you can leave the patch. You can also plant trees, but you have to plant the tree seeds in a plant pot until they are saplings. Then you put the sapling in the tree patches. You can do many things at once, since most plants at this level need no assistance. Tree seeds take averages of 140-460 minutes to become adults, depending on the tree. Fruit seeds take an average of 880 minutes to grow.
