Many people have asked me, "Why are you not wielding your pick?" This is because I have been in situations when I do not get attacked because people do not think that I am a miner. Also, I don't think it's proven but I believe that you mine faster with a pickaxe in your inventory instead of having it wielded.
What Should I Wear?
I don't like to try and pk other miners while I mine, so I think the best thing to wear would be monks robes. You can also wear dragonhide, but monks robes are easier and less expensive to replace.
Preparing Your Scouts
Scouts are absolutely essential while rune mining. They save you from 90% of pkers and switch worlds much more quickly. I recommend using at least 3 scouts in order to save as much world switching time as possible.
Your scout should bring 5-10 trout/salmon. This is for walking through the lava maze and for escaping pkers.Since you need to cut through 2 webs in order to get through the lava maze, you need a sword. The easiest way to get this is by talking to the Melee Combat Tutor right outside the Lumbridge general store. He gives you a training sword and a training shield.
Mining The Ores/World Times
OK. Now you're at the rune rocks and all three of you scouts are in the lava maze. It's time to finally start mining!
This is how you should mine. It's pretty simple. First, scout worlds with your scouts until you find a world that has ore. Then log into your main and mine em!
There is a specific formula for world times, but I personally don't like to use them because it's annoying to plug all the numbers in. From my experience, I've managed to estimate the time the ores will respawn on a world pretty accurately. Here's what I do:
- Full World --> 12 minute respawn
- 1800 People --> 14 minute respawn
- 1600 People --> 16 minute respawn
- 1300 People --> 18 minute respawn
- 1100 People --> 19 minute respawn
- 1000 People --> 20 minute respawn
- 600-900 People --> 22 minute respawn
- <550 People --> 24 minute respawn
Escaping Pkers
This is my favorite part of rune mining, if there weren't any pkers I wouldn't rune mine. This is what makes mining a thrill .
How to Escape One Pker
OK, so you scout a world and see that the rune rocks have ore and that there are no pkers! So you log into you main and start to mine the ore when suddenly, out of nowhere, a pker comes and attacks you.DO NOT PANIC. You must stay calm. Here is what you do when you get attacked. First, run around the rune rocks.
Now the pker is temporarily delayed. Now, if you have already mined both ores, go ahead and run for 10 seconds to log out. If there is still ore left, go attack a spider. Since the rune rocks is single-combat, this will prevent the pker from attacking you.
Then walk back to the rune rocks with the spider attacking you. Then start to mine the ores. The pker now will most likely attack the spider that is attacking you, in which case you wait until the spider that the pker is attack has low health and then attack a different spider. Repeat this process until you have mined both ores.After you have mined both ores, then run DIRECTLY WEST to the ice warriors.
When at the ice warriors, move around until the pker is being attacked by an ice warrior while you are not. Then you can log out. Congratulations! You have made one more pker angry!
Escaping from multiple pkers
2 pkers is much harder to escape from than one, and I wouldn't even bother to try and mine the ores. It's best to just run DIRECTLY WEST to the icies and repeat the same logging out process as stated above.
Tips
So now you know most of what you need to know about rune mining, but there's a few more miscellaneous tricks that would make rune mining a bit easier .When you need to recharge prayer, there is an altar in level 38 wilderness just south of the icies. When running from 2 pkers (when one is a mage), always use protection from mage because it helps with binds.
If you see another miner that is not wearing armor, go ahead and attack him/her to scare him/her off.If you get good at escaping one pker, you can try logging into a world that you already know from your scout that there is a pker waiting there. I do it all the time! It may be useful to train up your scouts' hp to 20 in order to avoid 1-hits, but I'm lazy Whenever you can, go on worlds 1-5 because they have ores way more often than other worlds.Don't stout rune! Get 85!
