This is guaranteed to be the fastest way to train range in Runescape. I have done more than 80 tests to find out the best way to train range in F2P, so I'm 100 percent sure this is the fastest way. This guide assumes you have all the equipment needed.
- Levels 1 - 5
- Levels 5 - 20
- Levels 20 - 30
- Levels 30 - 60
- Levels 60 - 99
- Levels 80 - 99
From level 1 - 5, the best training spot is in the chicken coop, northwest of Lumbridge, west of the cows near Al-Kharid. You should just stay in the center, ranging with training bow and arrows or a bronze bow and arrows. I recommend using the rapid style. Although you will lose more arrows, it is the fastest way to get these levels. It is also your choice whether to pick up arrows or not, but remember that picking up arrows wastes time on your goal to level 99 range.
After you get to level 5, you should equip your oak short bow, and head on to the cows south of Falador next to the crafting guild. There is a safe spot there, so if you are 1 defense, you don't even need food! The safe spot is west of the “planted cow”, where you can stay and range 4 spots where cows respawn. This is extremely good exp at these levels.
At level 20, you should change to a willow short bow and wear studded chaps. Finding a good range training spot is hard, but cows are still not bad. Barbarian village isn't too good exp, so I would not try it, however if you get bored of cows, then you should try that place. Guards are also OK exp, if you can find a place with plenty. The best exp for these levels though are definitely the scorpions at the Al-Kharid mines. You can stay safe from up-top and range these creatures with bronze arrows. This is my favorite spot so I stayed here till 35.
At level 30 range, you should now equip yourself with a maple short bow, the best f2p bow. You should go to the stronghold of security, located in Barbarian village and get to the second level. In the second level, the best place to train range is located in the second room to the west. About half of the spots your character can stand on are safespots. Attack the flesh crawlers, and not the rats, because the rats have higher defense, and can be used as blockades.
You should use steel arrows, otherwise it is not fast exp till level 45 or so. Get used to this place, because it is the fastest exp for these levels. Hill giants are OK for exp and money, but slow because of the time it takes them to respawn, and because of how crowded it always is. At level 40 range equip yourself with green dhide chaps and vambs, and continue ranging.
At level 60 range, you should now go to moss giants, located at the end of Varrock sewers or in Crandor. If you have completed dragon slayer, I recommend going to Crandor, especially with the new update so that you have about 4 more range safe spots. If you are 1 defense, then go to the end of Varrock sewers (remember you need a knife or something sharp to cut through webs!).
These guys are good exp, and I recommend using steel arrows for these. They drop big bones, black square shields, mith square shields, coins, and other stuff. I strongly recommend doing these till 99 range, however, lesser demons aren't too bad exp.
At level 80 range, you can use steel arrows at lesser demons. This isn't too bad of an idea, because lesser have relatively low defense, and there are a billion safe spots. However, since this place is almost always crowded, it can be tedious to find a world in which you can “constantly range” monsters to get exp. The waiting time for the lesser to respawn is what makes this place not so good for exp.
Another thing to note is that at around 70-80 range, if you have 40+ defense, and don't feel like clicking or paying too much attention to the game (for example IMing friends, or browsing MySpace
/Facebook
/YouTube
). I recommend going to the flesh crawlers in a different room. This room is on the second floor, but instead of going west, it is in the most south east room.
The flesh eaters there auto attack, and have low defense, allowing you to use bronze arrows to range these. You will need food though, but at around 70 defense, you will only need about a load of trout per hour! You should wear rune full helm, rune chain (less negative range bonus), rune legs, power ammy, maple bow, green dhide vambs, and a good amount of bronze arrows. This is a good way to get exp and not pay too much attention to the screen (just watch out for randoms, and logging off after 1 minute).
If you need to get more food, just fly fish some at barbarian village, if you can't, the nearest bank is in Edgeville. When the flesh eaters stop auto attacking, just run out of the room to the south west, go west about ¾ of the way through the next room, and come back to the same room with the flesh eaters, then they will auto attack you again. (this process takes like 2 seconds..)
That concludes my guide. I will be making a guide for mage, and melee soon.
