This is a guide to using ranging in pking and training on runescape. Ranging is using bow and arrows for long range combat - particularly useful in pking. Rangers in the combat triangle beat mages, as arrows can penetrate robes. Ranging can be expensive, though, because your character can lose arrows.
When you start to train your ranging skill, I recommend having at least 500 bronze arrows, or only to buy them, as you will hit low numbers and lose many arrows. Then work your way up using all of the bows you can at each level, but use only iron arrows unless you need to hit high numbers, like if you are pking.
Here is a list of the bows and arrows
- Standard bows and iron arrows - level 1
- Oak bows and steel arrows - level 5
- Willow bows and mithril arrows - level 20
- Maple bows and adamant arrows - level 30
- Members - ogre composite and brutal arrows - level 30
- Members - yew bows and rune arrows - level 40
- Members - Magic bows and rune arrows - level 50
- Members- Crystal bows with no ammo - level 70 - level 50 agility
Other ranging weapons include:
- Throwing knives through rune for members
- Javelins for members
- Crossbows and Phoenix crossbows for nonmembers
- Bronze - rune crossbows with special bolts for members
- Salamanders
