This guide contains information on how to train your account so that he/she will have the most effective stats in the wildy for meleers (nonmembers).
Pking, for many, is the only form of entertainment on runescape. Melee is the most common form of pking. I myself have 4 melee pkers, ranging from combats 21-87. Pures who have no attack and go for only strength, in short, will be crushed at higher levels. Pures should typically follow this path:
First, get to 5 attack and 10 strength in whatever combination you want to. The most effective ways of getting this can be:
Suicide train with 3 items near lumberidge on goblins. That way, you'll be close to your training spot and you won't have to worry about fishing shrimps or salmon for other training spots.
Train at the monastery. They don't do much damage. It is near a bank, and you can always run away and heal. You don't have to worry about having to constantly click other monks because they seldom will die.
If you want to have fun getting to these levels, go pk. Use salmon or trout. However, at these low levels, you definitely need friends to win.
Next, get to 10 attack, and soon afterwards, train to 20 strength.
This is a very difficult area to train, as in lumby, 20 strength will kill goblins very easily, monks will die too often, and you can still be creamed in pking.
I would suggest training the same way as before. However, pking will seem more appealing.
You can keep training so that your attack and strength levels follow this pattern:
- 20 att, 30 str
- 30 att, 40 str
- 40 att, 50 str
STOP
Once at 40 att, it becomes less likely that you should want to get higher attack levels. If you are an experienced pker and wish to pk in edgeville (nonmulti), you should continue to gain strength levels. If you want to pk with friends in multi and have your eyes set on rune, gain strength levels for now, but later, you should gain attack levels.

20 att, 30 str |
From here on out, pking is always an option. Also a grey area, my best suggestion would be al kharid warriors. In al kharid, there are a group of level 9 warriors. When you attack one, other ones attack you as well. Therefore, you should buy kebabs for food. Don't eat them at 4 health |

30 att, 40 str |
By now, pking is in my opinion the best thing to do. There are always low level “monsters” out there to train on. If you were to train on monsters, I would say that you should still train on the al kharid warriors.

40 att, 50 str |
Pking is clearly the best plan. Get a group of friends and have fun. To get to this level, if you don't feel ready to pk, you should train on minotaurs in the first level of the stronghold of security. Once you accomplish 40 att and 50 str, go to the edgy dungeon. Once there, follow the path until you reach a large room with many zombies. This is a great training spot that I always use. Not many people know about it. Bring some lobsters. If you feel ready, try the flesh crawlers in the second level of the stronghold of security. I would suggest having about 60 strength before you go there. |
ATTACK:
Basically, if you have 40 attack, you could potentially leave it there. If you want to only 1 on 1 people in edgeville, leave it at 40 attack permanently. If you want to pk with friends as a team, follow this path:
Once at 40 attack and 50 str, continue gaining strength until level 65-70. Then, you can gain 10-15 more attack levels. If you have around 80 strength, you can raise your attack to 60 if desired.
PRAYER:
For most of the combats up until about 50, you should consider leaving your prayer at 1. After combat 50, however, you begin to have options. The best options to choose are 13 pray, 31 pray, 34 pray, and 43 pray. I suggest 13 prayer to start, and then get 31 pray nearing combat 60 - 65. Do not get 34 pray unless you have 50 attack or more. Getting 43 pray is where it gets tricky; some people do not consider meleers with 43 pray “pures” anymore. However, if you find yourself having difficulty with getting piled and dying often, getting 43 pray might be the right move.
Getting these prayer levels can often be difficult. If you feel that spending a couple hundred k on big bones will not irritate you financially, go ahead and buy them. For 13 pray, as well as for the not-so-financially-lucky, going to the bone yard is often easier. There are a couple spots where big bones respawn. Look them up on runeHQ in the prayer guide. There is a very helpful map there. The restless ghost quest can also help out.
