Always stuck at the bank trying to figure out what to bring to wildy? Then read this guide for meleers! It contains information on equipment and inventory for meleers of all sorts (nonmembers only).
EQUIPMENT
Headgear:
There are many different options for headgear. This headgear really doesn't affect how well you do in combat. However, some of the most common options are iron full helm, wizard hats, or no headgear at all. Depending on your defense level, you may want different helms (steel, black, mith, etc). For pures, the iron full helm can provide a little defense (Stab +6, Slash +7, Crush +5), but for those who are worried about how they look, they can wear a wizard hat or wear nothing at all. At higher levels, it is not considered “bad style” to wear steel, black, mithril, adamant, or rune helms. The wizard hat is good for hybrids of both melee and mage.
Ammy:
The amulet is fairly simple. There are two options: the power amulet or strength amulet (defense amulet is bad). Hybrids should definitely wear the power amulet. The strength amulet gives a +10 strength bonus, whereas the power amulet gives a +6 bonus in everything. It's really up to you for what you want to wear.
Body:
There are many different options for the bodypiece. First, you could use a platebody, depending on your defense level. Also, you could wear items such as monk robes, wizard robes, or priest gowns. There is other armor such as chain, which has the advantage of being lighter than a platebody. Occasionally, there are people who are seen wearing a leather body. The platebody can give defense bonuses, even though that is one of the last things many pkers are worried about. Monk robes and priest gowns are good for those with prayer, and wizard robes are good for hybrids between mage and melee. Chainbodies are like platebodies except they are lighter and less effective. Sometimes, people wear a rune chainbody because they have not completed dragon slayer to wear a rune platebody. Leather bodies can be useful for hybrids between melee and range. They provide little defense bonus.
Weapon:
There are also many options available for weapons. Meleers have all of the following available to them: dagger, axe, mace, sword, scimitar, long sword, warhammer, battle axe, and 2h (2 handed sword). However, when it comes down to it, there are only a couple of realistic options: scimitar, battle axe, and 2h. Personally, I find battle axe to be the worst of these. It is slow, and to hit a high number for a ko, a 2h is much better suited. A scimitar is the fastest of these three and can hit the highest amount of damage in the lowest amount of time. For kos, the 2h can hit the highest number and is seldom used alone (although there are pkers who use that strategy). In my opinion, I would use the scimitar that fits your attack level, and once at rune, I would also carry a 2h around.
Legs:
There are a couple options. There are leather chaps, which are seldom used. There are also priest gowns, monk gowns, and blue, black, and pink skirts. These all have basically the same function. The difference is found in style preference, and priest and monk bottoms give prayer bonuses. My personal favorite is the dragonhide chaps, as I am less concerned with appearences as with pking. Dragonhide chaps must be worn with 40 range, however. They give considerable defence bonus for pures (more than iron legs). Also, they provide mage defence bonus. Lastly, there is armor. The items listed above are more often associated with pures; those with defence should wear the platelegs appropriate for their defence level.
Shield, gloves, cape, etc:
These are all the items that really don't have more than one option. Wear the appropriate shield for your defence level; if you are wearing full wizard robes, priest gowns, or monk robes, don't wear a shield; it will look out of place. Wear dragonhide vambraces is possible, and wear normal vambraces if not possible. Wear colored gloves if you really want. Wear any colored cape, and do not wear a ring. Just wear boots or any of the holiday boots that you may have collected.

INVENTORY
The inventory isn't very confusing. First, you will need teleport runes. Then, you need a strength potion (and know how to use it). You will need the rune scimitar and rune 2h, so that you can see the rune 2h in your inventory. Of course, you will need food. Hybrids that include mage should have binds and fire blasts.
Recommended inventory:
- Teleport runes
- Rune 2h
- Food
- Strength potion
- If melee-mage hybrid:
- Runes for fireblast
- Runes for bind, if desired
- Staff
