Example 1- I logged in a crowed world in Varrock bank. When I went in, first I lagged due to the number of people in the bank, then I noticed a person yelling out in colored waves “Jagex block your password, you cannot type it, see! ******” When I see it, I thought it was pretty cool and tried it. To my horror, my password popped out, I immediately logged off, changed my password then realized how stupid I am.
Scenario analysis- Well, nothing too much to say about this scam, is pretty stupid, because players choose a wide variety of password, from mystic gods to food. If Jagex blocked them all, then people cannot talk any more, all you see are ****.
Danger-***** Frequency-*****
Example 2- I was training on kamaja where the moss giants are so I can get prayer experience. Suddenly a guy popped out claiming to be Jagex staff and tells me to give my pass or he will ban me. I have now played long enough to know that all staffs have crowns next to their heads and they never ask you password. I played along and act freaked out, reported him for Jagex staff impersonation logged off and got to another world.
Scenario analysis- It is very stupid for people pretending to be Jagex staff. I see people claiming their dad to be Andrew Gower, Mod Paul, and other staff. Also I meet a n00b saying his main is zezima and he will pawn me if I do not give him my armor( I was wearing full rune). Remember staff never asks for pass or things, if you fell for this one, you are going to suffer great losses and I have to laugh at you.
Danger -*(Nobody is going to fall for it) Frequency- ***
Example 3- I was fighting wizard in the wizard tower, then I heard a guy talking to another person that if you drop stuff on the ground and press ALT and F4. The item would double. I thought it could be worth a try, so I did a test, I dropped a water rune, pressed ALT and F4, the window closed, and when I logged back, the rune was gone.
Scenario analysis- This scam was a the way for windows users to close windows if something happened to their mouse. Remember, ALT and F4 close the window, also money do not drop from the sky, if you want money, earn it.
Danger -** Frequency- ***
Example 4- I was walking around in Varrock and I see a person selling golden gloves. I thought “A golden glove, never see that before.” So walk to him and asked the price for it, he said is 10k. I have enough money in my bank to spend on something that I can show off so I bought it. I later wore the glove to my friend to brag about, when he hard it, he laughed so hard snot is coming down his nose.( He told me this part in text, so I didn't see it) When he finished laughing, he told me I am scammed, the gloves are only 2k in free worlds and 500gp in member world.
Scenario analysis- Always have an idea what is the price for goods in the game so you can be sure not to buy stuff that are overpriced then decide whether does it worth your money or not. If you are extremely not sure, try to check the runescape forum for price guides, it gives you a rough idea of the prices of goods in runescape market.
Example 5- I had a great friend online. We started playing runescape together, trained together, trade together, we trust each other for our valuable stuff, I some times lent him my full zammy and he lent me his full sara. One day, after month and month of work, in one glory day, I bought my very first rare, a santa hat. I was so happy when I got it and showed it to my friend. He asked it if he could see it because he want to check does it have a magic bonus. I said sure and gave the hat to him, five seconds later, he logged of and disappeared from my life.
Scenario analysis- God, I still suffer from this, although I pain for my loss of my santa and months of work, I cannot human greed can even turn your best friend against you. Well, if you want to avoid this, do not give your valuable to anybody. I see people's boy or girlfriend take their “lovers” valuables and disappear.
