Fishing is a very valuable skill to have. Many people in runescape enjoy fighting. We all know this. What some people don't realize is that when people are low on health they need food, lots of it. And because they need it, (supply and demand - mostly demand) they are willing to pay over four times as much as any store will pay for food, the more it heals, the better.
For example, a general store will buy; say a swordfish for only 80gp. Selling it to a hurt player, on the other hand, will fetch for 300 to 500gp. Which one is better? You do the math. To train this most noble art, you have to start somewhere, and I'm sad to say that, well, it isn't very glorious. Yes ladies and gentlemen, you start out fishing shrimp. Now for the guide:
Fishing 1-19 Small net fishing
At this point, you don't have very may options. You can fish shrimp (level 1-14), or you can fish anchovies (level 15 onwards). This has been shown to be the fastest way to raise fishing. A good spot to fish is in the coast south of Draynor village. Once you catch the fish, they can be cooked like you cook anything else.
Fishing 20-39 Fly Fish
Now that you can fly fish, do it!! Fly fishing is shown to be faster than net and bait fishing if you wish to level up. A convenient spot is near the bridge to barbarian village. Once you have the fish, you can cook them in the eternally burning fires in the Barbarian Village Long hall. IF you have access to the Champions Guild, so much the better. Kill the chickens there for their feathers, collect about 1k of feathers and make trips whenever you run out. This saves lots of time as you are making a lot less trips to and from the Champions Guild.
Fishing 40-49 Lobster Pot Fish
At fishing level 40, you are ready to make some money. Get a hold of a lobster pot, Port Sarim store around 20gp and travel to Karamja. (Fee is 60gp round trip.) Once you are on Karamja, enter the banana plantation and head north. Eventually you should come across a pier/dock. Here there are bound to be several fishing spots where you can cage fish and get plenty of lobsters. You should bring an ax and tinderbox with you, however, because there aren't always fires lit.
There is a tree that you can cut down by Luthias' house to light with your tinderbox. Cook, and drop your burnt lobsters until you have a full inventory of cooked lobsters. When you have this, take them to a bank (either Draynor of Falador), and store them. Sell in bulk to get more money. Bulk= at least 200 lobsters per trade. Lobster will sell from 250-300gp.
Fishing 50-99
Now you can harpoon fish swordfish. Acquire a harpoon, (Sarim fishing store) Go to Karamja follow steps for 40-49 fishing, except use a harpoon. Swordfish sell for 300-500gp each.
