How to Level Your Fishing

A fun guide on how to get your Fishing level to 99. Don't worry about where to train or when to start fishing a different fish. I got it covered.

This is a guide to Fishing for free-to-players of RuneScape. I will tell you the best way to get your fishing level to 99 in as fast as possible. NOT the way that makes you the most money. The fastest way. Here we go.

1-15

Shrimp. Yes I know that this will be the slowest xp in the game but the time it saves is unbelievable compared to how much time you spend getting bait and a fishing rod. Especially for lower leveled players who would be the most likely to read this section. Bait is hard to find. So yes shrimp is the fastest way to level from 1-15. Fish at Draynor Village it is the closest to a bank if you decide you want to bank or cook you fish later. The only item you need to shrimp fish a a small net you receive from Tutorial Island.

15-20

Anchovies. Stick with your small net is won't let you down, this is that fastest xp you can get at your level right now. I'm betting you're glad I didn't tell you to get rid of your net now aren't you? Keep fishing at Draynor you probably have met a few people you might call friends there by now and you can just keep fishing with them. So have a good time while your with your friends. Still the only item you need is the small net from Tutorial Island.

20+

Yes, Trout from 20 all the way to 99. Also you get to fish salmon once you reach level 30. You probably think I'm crazy by now but listen to this first. If you drop your fish while fishing trout you can get some of the best xp in the game. When I go fishing I average around 40,000 xp per hour. ONLY if you drop your fish. If you want to keep your fish for later use you will probably only get around 20,000 xp per hour. Which is still a lot. If you do this til you are level 40 and start fishing lobsters in Karamja you will probably only receive 10,000 xp per hour. If you bank your fish you will get 3000 xp per hour which is nothing compared to 20,000 xp per hour. So you can see that I am not crazy after all. First you need feathers and a fly fishing rod. You can get a fly fishing rod in the Port Sarim fishing store for only 30 coins.

The next thing you need is feathers. And you need lots of feathers. There are lots of different ways to get your feathers. First you can kill chickens and gather their feathers. They usually drop between 5-15 feathers per chicken. Or if you are on the wealthy side you can buy your feathers in the Grand Exchange for 5 coins each. You should get a small amount very fast so take those and get fishing. The rest should come by the time you have finished using your first feathers. Once you have all you feathers I recommend going to the fishing spots just south of Edgeville.

They are the fastest to bank at and the most people go there witch isn't a bad thing. You will make friends pretty fast and it is just a great atmosphere. You should try to find people that will keep fishing with you everyday so you can always have a friend. You could even make a homeworld where you and your buddies meet before going fishing. But it is STRONGLY recommended that you at least have one friend because you will be spending a lot of time here.

  • If you don't know where any of the places mentioned are there is a world map on the RuneScape homepage.
  • The numbers I used in the 20+ section are just estimates feel free to comment if you have more exact numbers.
  • Please visit my other RuneScape guides if you found this one helpful. There will be more coming soon.
  • And most importantly HAVE FUN.

Had an urge! :) The guide is good, and I agree with what you have written. You have forgotten to mention ONE thing, that if you bank your trouts/salmons, then your XP per hour drops again.
