How to Avoid Item and Password Scams

This short guide will teach you all you need to know on how to avoid item and password scammers in Runescape, and how to deal with them too.

One of the worst things that can happen to you while you are playing Runescape is probably getting your items scammed. The risk is high, so you have to be on guard always. Here are some tips on how a new player can avoid being scammed altogether!

  1. Check your second trade window CAREFULLY to make sure you get what you bargained for. If you don't, click decline trade and ignore the scammer.
  2. When someone asks you to follow them, and they start to go north, be careful that they dont go too far north as they can kill you and take your items if it is far north.
  3. If someone says"here is how to duplicate items DON'T LISTEN there is no way at all to do that and if there is, you an get caught and banned fairly easily. instead, simply click report and type their name, and then click the button called"item scamming" at the bottom.
  4. If someone tells you to drop your stuff and press alt=F4, DO NOT DO IT! That will drop your item, and close your window, leaving the item free to take for this person. Once again, simply report him fro item scamming.
  5. if someone is saying things like"cutting gems for free" don't listen. You have to give him the gems and he does not have to give them back. Don't report him, just ignore him. When you need gems to be cut, ask a trusted friend and I'm sure he will.
  6. If you see someone saying things like" playing the trust game" just report him. In that game, you give him your three BEST items and he is supposed to give them back to you with 600k as a reward. Most likely he will just log out or teleport away.
  7. Last but not least, if you see someone offering to hold your items and act as a portable bank, don't buy it. That person can just... teleport or log out, and your items are gone.

Password Scamming

This is what many scammers will try to do, steal your password to your account and then take ALL your money. Follow my guide and you should be safe.

  1. Anyone saying this like"hey look, jagex blocks your pass see *******" don't listen. jagex DOES NOT block your pass(it is a proven fact, and jagex says so themselves)instead you ignore him and report him.
  2. If someone says something like"give me your password or I will hack you" report him and don't talk to him at all.
  3. If someone says things like"To become a mod you have to change your password to_____" don't listen. Just report him, as always.
  4. If someone offers you to"be able to choose any item in Runescape you want for free, but we need your password first" don't listen. They will just log out with your password. instead, report the scumbag!
  5. Last but not least, if someone says something like "Hello I'm Jagex, and there is a problem with your account, I need your password to get in to fix it blah blah blah" don't listen, report him for password scamming, or impersonating jagex staff. (staff will rarely appear and if they do, whatever they say will have a golden crown next to it.).

There are many more methods that someone uses to get your password from you, but to avoid being scammed, never give anyone your password. NO ONE. One time I gave my friend my password, and next thing I know, my "friend" hacked me and I had to beat him up to get my stuff back: You cant trust anyone.

That's not fair, because a lot of people do free gem cutting for the xp.
Also gems aren't worth stealing and the risk you get for being banned...if they want to scam they would go for bigger items.

yes, but they can still scam your gems, so i was just saying just ask your friend to do it for you...to avoid being scammed altogether. I did not say to report a gem cutter, just to ignor him.
