I've kept a few friends that I've helped start out and they have gotten better a lot. Few of my oldest friends actually helped me in some way when I was a newbie. Every time I got helped I was quick on my thanks and over expressionism of gratitude.
When I help someone else I find that a simple thanks or the "reward" that they will now enjoy the game more help tremendously. A couple of times I've gone out and given free armor that I've made to get my mining and smithing up. I haven't done it lately due to my extreme concern of training my skills when I'm actually on the game.
The difference in the amount of people that ask questions and how they act in f2p vs p2p used to be extremely different. Since the rwt updates many of the smart mouth pkers (as well as the nice ones....) have left. I also find that now people usually just ask out of not knowing. Usually I just refer them to RuneScape's KDB but most of them don't know about it to begin with. Commonly I find people that are really, just too young (below 13) to even play RuneScape.
How I can tell is:
- How they speak
- Their vocabulary
- How they react to the way I talk on RS and react to them and
- Knowledge about the web. It might not be exact but you can easily tell a 9 year old from a mature 13+ year old player.
A few years ago I posted an article about Operation Help Runescape, it contained my username and considering Operation Help Runescape aim to help new runescape players and I had a staff rank, I got hundreds of messages after giving out my username.
I tried to help people but it was too much and I ended up putting my chat on friends... Post any comments with your opinion on helping others in runescape.
