Guide to Ruinedscape's BOUNTY Hunter!

An all "amazing" guide to Bounty Hunter.

I'm pretty sure there's probably another ten submissions or so, talking about Bounty Hunter but within different people, there are different opinions. So this is mainly my introduction, and this will be my 4th submission (2nd on Runescape) and I hope you take what I have taught you and think about it.

Bounty Hunter

Should I Play Bounty Hunter?

Basically, Bounty Hunter if a free for all zone where two players (or more) can pretty much attack anyone, anytime. However there are several restrictions on whom and who you can not attack.

  1. You can attack other players who are not being attacked
  2. You can always attack your target anytime
  3. Someone else is fighting them and they are not your target
  4. You're the other player's target

These pretty much lowers the amount of players that can attack you at once, but pretty much overall it's still a pointless game if you have these qualities

  1. Short patience span
  2. If you hate to be killed
  3. If you hate to be killed because some dude attacks you out of nowhere
  4. You hate to fight higher levels

OR if you have these qualities you might just enjoy it

  1. You like to kill people
  2. You enjoy to kill lower levels
  3. You have nothing else to do (you have no life)

So whether you want to play or not play it is up to you, but these are some qualities that you can categorize yourself in and choose whether you want to try it out or continue to play it.

What do the skulls on top of my head mean?

The skulls basically categorize what in total value of the items you brought in is worth. So say I had a brown skull. That would mean I brought in a value of 0-100k worth of items inside. So please note what skulls other players have when Bounty Hunting. So here's a chart for your needs.

Brown Skull0-100k
Grey Skull100k-500k
Green Skull500k-1100k
Blue Skull1100k-2500k
Red Skull2500k+

Please note: That this is approximately how it goes like but most likely note exactly.

The hunter and the hunted

How do I find my target?

There are two main ways you can find your target. First, you can either do the simpler thing and use the Bounty Teleport spell (costs about 350gp per go) or you can simply walk around until you find them or an arrow on your mini map meaning you're close.

How do I know when my hunter is nearby?

In my opinion, there are 3 main and easy ways to distinguish and expose your hunter.

  1. When someone teleports around you close by
  2. While you're fighting someone else, another person has their 2h sword ready
  3. They ask you to no armor
  4. Try attacking them, if you do manage to attack them then you're their target and you should G.T.F.O there.

P.S. This does NOT apply to people who are under the combat level of 75 or people who decide to not bring any decent armor with them (who go to med crater).

Which Crater is right for me?

Well in Bounty Hunter there are 3 main craters you can select from. Low, Med, and High crater which range from 3-55 combat levels, 50-100 combat levels, and 95-126 combat levels. If you are either 50-55 or 95-100 I highly recommend to stick to your levels so you can fight lower levels. However if you are from the levels 3-40, or 55-70, I highly recommend you don't try or play Bounty Hunter.

Pick-up and “Can't leave” penalties

In Bounty Hunter, you should be aware of the 2 penalties (the pick-up penalty and the Can't leave penalty). The Pick-up penalty is given out when you have killed someone who is not your target. So you either have a choice to pick up your kill or to not. But think about this carefully whether it is worth the chance or not (I'll talk about some techniques as you read later on). Say you pick it up and die. Not only you will lose your kill, but also your existing items in your inventory and the ones you are wielding. Note that you will lose ALL items that you bring in Bounty Hunter. Also, if you pick up the items, you will see a “Can't Leave” penalty on the top right corner of your screen. It will begin at 180 seconds and during that time you can not leave, which brings you at the mercy of other players. Also, if you decide to pick up any other items the penalty will automatically restart and you have to begin all over again.
