I know most of you out there who play rs would agree that rs has totally failed itself after removing the wilderness and set up a 3k rule. To start off with, all the smart merchants out there who depended strongly on buying and selling holiday items, discontinuous items and treasure trails items to make money through imperfect information now can't. What's the affect of that? It takes hundreds of times longer to make the same amount of money in doing merchant. The introduction of the grand exchange may be seen as a way to cover some of the disadvantages of the 3k rule, but to be honest, it can't.
Firstly, you don't get to decide the price of the item if it out of the price range. What if you wanted a bit more so you can afford a different item? No solution. 5% min. max. price is also very little compared to the % profit made without the 3k rule. Jagex may think all players are fairly treated that they need to earn every gp they have? But hey, what about the people that bought rs gp just before the 3k rule?
Secondly, the grand exchange affected the prices of many items. Charcoal was once a profitable item which sold for between 1k-10k in non-member worlds. But now? That is no longer possible. With perfect information about the prices of everything, players can no longer skill up crafting by cutting uncuts without making a profit loss. The starting price of full guthix, zammy and sara has also changed their original prices before we were fixed to trading in ge. Guthix use to be 1.2M, now 1.8. Zammy use to be 2M, now 2.8. Sara use to 2.3M and now 3.5M. These reflect how Jagex has forced a new price of items onto the players instead of letting the players decide the price by starting from the original prices of items before ge.
Thirdly, ge has made merchanting much more time consuming. Since players can't chose prices out of the min-max range, if the price goes too low, no one would sell it. Sometimes this makes people wait for weeks before the price returns to normal and people start selling. Sometimes when you see an advantage of low price in the market, greedier players have already ordered thousands to take big advantage by putting the money in first. People have to constantly monitor the prices of things incase they change, whereas before, everything stayed the same.
Fourthly, people who can use to merchant skilled out items such as magic amulet and defence amulet now can't. Too many skillers dump their items in ge min price. The min price can't go any lower because Jagex forced the minimum price to be the price the item can sell for in their stores.
Lastly, if you want to help some one like your own siblings with their quest by supplying them with the best armours, you can't. You reader must agree that all this isn't worth it just for the removal of macros.
What comes along with the 3k rule that fails?? The removal of the wilderness. There have already been numerous protests against the 3k rule as well as calling for the return of the wilderness. Jagex thinks they have substituted everything the wilderness was used for through duel arena, clan wars, bounty hunter and fist of guthix. What's still missing? Let me just point out a few of the many that they haven't covered. What if you wanted to set out as a clan to pk and loot in the wilderness? You can't. You can only go to bounty hunter and be vulnerable to whoever you're assigned or which ever rogue is after you. What if you want to kill treasure trail people in the wilderness and take their drop? You can't. There are now revenants in the wilderness. You think they replace players? They eat so much, do so much 24 hit spells at lvl 15 and the lvl 105 orc only drops 800gp!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT??? This is going crazy.
I hope this is enough to express my point that the 3k rule is a total failure for jagex, leading to a drastic player decrease and a fall in popularity of their game. All this just to remove macros… as if random events weren't enough.
