Buthope Games Room
The games room in Burthope is a large internet cafe type area where you and another player can play board games. It is members' only, and currently has two games available.
Getting there
You can get there by going downstairs in the Burthope palace, or by rubbing an enchanted sapphire necklace. Then, you will see a barmaid who will sell you beer which you can drink between games. This is the challenge area.
The challenge area
In the main area, you can challenge other players to a game by right clicking and choosing challenge. The challenge area has two stories. Each story has tables where players can play games and you can spectate the games when you're not in one. There are also two special rooms on each floor.
Special rooms
On each floor, there are two special rooms. One room is for challenging players to draughts (like checkers), and the other is for challenging players to runelink. The challenging is easier here because you can only challenge to that game, and you can see your own rank, as well as their ranks instead of their combat levels. The two rooms upstairs are only for elite players that have at least 1500 points in either game.
The challenge
When you challenge them, you will see their rank and your rank in both games. It starts at 1000, but goes up or down if you win or lose. Losing to players with a lower rank than you will cost you more points, but beating someone with a higher rank will win you more points. When challenging, you will be able to set how long players will be able to wait before they are forced to move, which rune you get (your opponent also gets to choose theirs) and whether the game will be ranked or not. They must accept or decline your offer. They are not allowed to change these options. When both people have accepted, you will be taken to a table in the main area where the game screen will appear. Play will go on until someone forfeits or loses (they are the loser) or a draw occurs (players can agree on a draw, or a draw will happen in Runelink when the board is full, or in Draughts if nothing happens after 40 moves). After the game, both players will respawn in the special room of the game they just finished.
Draughts
Draughts is known as Checkers in some parts of the world. It is played on a black and white board, but only the black squares are used. Both players start with 12 pieces, and they are placed on the first 4 rows of black squares. When playing, the pieces move diagonally and only one square at a time. They cannot move backwards. If one piece can jump over an enemy piece, they must do so. This is called a capture and the enemy piece is removed from the board. Multiple captures are possible (and required) if all done with the same piece. The object of the game is to get rid of all of the enemy pieces. When a piece gets to the other side of the board, they are promoted to king status. Kings will appear red, and they can move backwards and forwards.
Runelink
Runelink is a game that most players know as Connect 4. It is played on a 7 by 6 square board, and it is vertical, so you can only put pieces on the bottom horizontal row and on top of other pieces. When either player gets 4 of their piece in a row without being interrupted by the enemy piece, they win.
Squares
Squares takes place in a large grid full of dots. What players must do is draw a line between 2 dots by clicking on the part where the line should be. You cannot make diagonal lines. Play continues until one player finishes a square. Once this happens, they put their rune in the circle and get to take another turn. Play continues until the board is full. The player with the most runes on the board wins.
Runereversi
Runereversi is similar to standard reversi. The board starts out empty except for four pieces in the centre of the board (like so:
| Player 1's rune | Player 2's rune |
| Player 2's rune | Player 1's rune |
Each move must be a capture. To capture your opponent's pieces, you must sandwich them with two of your own pieces. Sandwiches can go horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. Once you capture enemy pieces, they will be converted to your rune. Play continues until one person runs out of runes (the loser) or the board is full (the person with the most runes on the board wins).
