Online Video Games... Addiction or a Way of Life?

Recently more people are getting addicted to Online Games. Such as Massive Multiplayer Games: World of Warcraft. Or is it a way of life?

Recently, many people have been addicted to online video games; games such as World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, and many others. They might be in denial they are even addicted. Some will even say, “It is my way of life”

A few games out there, for example: World of Warcraft, where many players can gather up together to do various of quests, objectives, and even enjoy themselves. All the players are real people, who make the community of the game. Due to the active players (Over 9million subscribers!), Only around 2 thousand are per realm.

Many players have many different play style for this these types of game. Few are casual players, few are so-so, few are hardcore, and very few are addicted. I'’ve meet a few of these addicted people and interviewed them, hoping they don’t get offended with my questions.

One of the people I interviewed said he was 23. He has a job, but loves to play this game more then it. He doesn'’t like to go outside much or spend time with his friends via real life. “All I need is this game, and a job that can support the $15 per month. I have friends in this game…they may not be physical at the moment, but they are real on the other end of the computer.”

Online video games can help let the “Socially Deprived” people out there make some friends over the internet. There are many pros to this, but with pros there are cons. I myself have met many new people all over the world. And, just in my opinion, I think it is great knowing people from different states or countries. You can get to know them more, learn their life style, how your countries differ, and many other things.

In the end, people can label anyone “Addicted” by playing a video game for so long, but there is a reason to play it. It can be just for friends or even to lack of friends in the real life. There are so many possibilities that a person would be hooked on a game, and might not even consider it an addiction…it’s a way of life.
