The new NC (Neopets customization) Mall was opened for beta testing to US players only. The NC Mall is basically a neopets clothes store only you spend real cash and the items only last 90 Days!
Many users are outraged over the money-making scheme as they were told (in the editorial of the NT, issue 12) Neopets would stay free until it died. 9/10 of the questions in the current editorial were regarding the NC Mall and NeoCash. TNT's response to all the complaints/questions were basically the same:
Neopets is still free! We can't stress that enough. You do NOT have to buy from the Mall, and the items that you can buy in no way affect game play. (We've worked very, very hard on that fact.) It's merely an extra option for those folks who would like to pay.
The website IS free. Think about Neopets like a Friday night (unless you spend it staying home like most of us did in high school). You can go to the park for fun, read a book, or go hang out with your friends - all free, right? Or, you can pay to do something... like go to the movies. The NC Mall is like that. It's not necessary, it doesn't last forever, but it can be fun nonetheless. It's really up to each individual to decide if buying a ticket is worth it.
As TNT keeps saying, NeoCash does cost real money but is not necessary. Will the NC Mall become a huge success or a huge flop? We'll just have to wait and see. (Personally I wouldn't even think about purchasing even 1 NC)
