Background of the Legend
Gears of War 2 is being developed using an upgraded version of the Unreal Engine 3 by Epic games. Like it's predecessor, the game will be developed exclusively for the XBox 360.
Story
Gears of war 2 takes place seven years after the first. The locusts have begun destroying huge cities by making giant emergence holes, not capable of being made before. Now the COG forces have begun drilling underground to stop the locusts. After all “This is humanity's last stand” says Joshua Ortega, the games writer. The lightmass bomb from the previous game caused a new disease called “Rust lung” to spread among the stranded. A huge fraction of the story in Gears of War 2 is based upon Dom Santiago finding his long lost love. Along the way, we meet some new faces including dizzy, a stranded that joined COG forces to help his family survive,
Gameplay
The Gameplay in Gears 2 will closely resemble the first game, but some features have been updated. New cover mechanic makes it harder to get hit when in cover, new weapons including the Hammer Burst and the poison grenade, an reloading will be different for different guns, and multiple players may play on different difficulty settings on the same campaign. The graphics will of course be updated, bringing a more vibrant experience.
Multiplayer
Gears 2 will feature many of the good qualities found in the first game including. Three online multiplayer modes including a capture the flag style game, and online co-op. Most multiplayer maps from the first game remain intact, despite a slight graphic update.
Release
The game is scheduled for release November 7, 2008
