An easy way to lvl up is to get a guest like Warlic or Robina to join you. Warlic does help you at the start and you should see why I recommend him. Robina is also strong but unlike Warlic doesn't change attack type.
A good weapon is the Awesome Dualight which can sometime absorb mana from your opponent and puts it into your health. This weapon always absorbs half your enemy's man so if they have high mana you will recover greatly.
If you want to be a really great fighter go to Warlic and get the mage robes from him. You can then do the mage quests which will allow you to cast spells that cause around 30 damage.
Getting Beast master is great as at lvl 5 you get the ability where all of the attacks from your guest and pet will increase by 30%.
