More Free Games

After the success of my article, Five Free Games to Kill Five Hours, I've decided to produce another piece in a similar vein. So here we go with yet more free games that may well eat up more than your lunch break!

Warfare 1917

Warfare 1917 is a free game with lots of fun to be had. It's a World War One combat game in which there are only three mechanics to learn. Call in units, control their behavior within trenches, and target support weapons fire. Once you get your head around these ideas, it's very simple and very rewarding. The game's campaign gradually gets tougher and tougher, requiring more thought in how you organize the troops. It also simulates WWI style tactics quite well, as often times the only way to gain ground is to simply charge in every last soldier you have and hope some make it through. The custom battles also mean there are plenty of reasons to keep playing once you have completed the campaign mode. Overall, warfare 1917 is a fantastic free game, and will keep you amused for quite a while.

Hedgehog Launch.

Your mission is simple. Your small island nation has decided to start a space program. It's your job to carry it out. There's just a few small hitches… You need to get a hedgehog into orbit. And you only have a small jetpack for the little critter. And some long poles. And some elastic. And if you want to buy them, some swanky goggles.

The game is simple, silly fun. You launch your hedgehog into the air using the elastic band and then guide it with the rockets, aiming to collect levitating money. When you land, the gold you collected is multiplied by two factors depending on the height you reached and the time you spent in the air. You then spend this money to upgrade your equipment, getting your hedgehog closer and closer to the goal of outer space. You can increase your score and the time you spend in the air by hitting platforms, and buying new upgrades such as the emergency rocket.

My personal record for this game is getting the hedgehog into orbit in 6 days. Bet you can't beat that!

Indestructo Tank.

The indestructo tank is another free game that will entertain greatly. The premise of the game is thus, you are piloting the indestructo tank, a… well, an indestructible tank. However, you have no guns meaning there is only one way to defeat your (mainly flying) enemies- ram them with your tank. Enemies drop bombs which you can use to gain some altitude by intentionally getting hit by them, then try to hit as many enemies as you can without touching the ground to rack up a huge combo, and level up.

When you level up, you spend points on making MORE enemies appear, thus giving you a greater chance of getting a big combo and earning more XP. And you must gain XP for you can only refuel when you level up- and fuel is always ticking away. If you run out, then your poor little tank is suddenly a lot less indestructible… How far can you get?

The tank racks up a 4 hit combo, putting me well on my way to that all important refuel…
