Computer Gaming Parties: Your True Test

Computer gaming has become more and more popular over the years. It got its start thousands of years ago when the first person decided that they wanted to do something interactive for fun. For every game out there people started with an idea in their head and then usually started playing on their own. That is the same way that computer gaming got its start. Computer games started out with one player in mind. Then when people started to beat the computer they wanted a greater challenge. So began the start of what are now often referred to LAN parties.

What could offer a greater challenge with more fun than getting a group of people together and seeing who could best whom? It started with a friendly conversation about who had the better score, then it turned into who had better technique. Pretty soon you had a couple of people hanging out and playing games. With the invention of networking, this took off to a whole new level. All of sudden you had three, four or ten computers hooked up together, everybody was connected, playing the same game, at the same level. This was considered the true test of who was better.

Now there are games that are meant for two players and some that are meant for hundreds of players. In every college dorm it is guaranteed that you will find a group of people that have logged onto a network with the sole purpose of playing a game together. This is known as a LAN party. Soda, nachos, pizza, chips, cookies and all sorts of other snacks, with a group of people out to have a good time. Now you can play without having to leave the house, logged onto the web and playing a game with people that you may or may not know.

To some this doesn't sound like much fun, but if you like to participate in brain duels than there is a game, community and party with your name on it. There are board games such as chess, checkers and scrabble. There are single player tournaments for things like solitaire. You can join in on a role-playing game like Final Fantasy or a command and conquer game such as Worlds of Warcraft. It doesn't matter what your preference is, there is a game out there for you, and a group of people that are challenging each other in an attempt to decide who is the best, or which group is the best.
