Competitive Gaming

All about competitive gaming, and how people make a living off of it.

Competitive gaming has been here since the very first games. All the way back to pong, until now with the most successful competitive game in the world, Counterstrike. In the beginning of gaming, people did it for fun, and for the bragging rights. Now adays, people make a living off of it, the two most noticable North American gamers being David "Walshy" Walsh; the man who made millions off of gaming, and Steve "Fatal1ty" Kroft; the most recognizable gamer to date.

Walshy has made millions by being very game literate; when it comes to games, he knows everything. The game he has made his millions off of has been a GREAT franchise, named Halo. Everyone wanted him to join their tournament, but one company went above and beyond that. Major League Gaming, also known as MLG, has given Walshy a $250,000 contract to join their tournaments, also known as the Pro Circuit. When the MLG franchise grew to millions, everyone wanted a piece of it. Big names such as Dr. Pepper and Redbull have decided to sponsor some teams in the gaming industry. But, no one is more known, or more generous then one man. The Orlando Magic's own, Gilbert Arenas. He has been sponsoring the (arguably) best Halo team, Final Boss. With a million dollar contract, they are the most paid United States gamers.

As big as gaming is in North America, believe it or not, it is MUCH more bigger in Asia. Competitive gamers in Asia, mainly Korea, are regarded as SUPERSTARS there. They are the North American equivalent to Actors and Musiciens. Gaming is just a part of life over there.

All of you gamers out there that have been called nerds, or geeks. You probably have one thing over those people. They will probably not be making millions of dollars, sitting on their asses, having fun playing video games.
