Classic Atar Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Treasure of Tarmin

Talks about the game Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Treasure of Tarmin.

If you have never heard of this game you should not be surprised because this game was never actually released for any Atari console. A version was made for the Intellivision but it had been originally made for the Atari 2600. In fact after the video game crash the Atari 2600 prototype was ported over to the Intellivision. So the Intellivision version is similar to what the Atari 2600 would have been like.

Why even bring up a game that does not even exist on any Atari system you might wonder. The reason is that recently the original prototype game has been found and has even been ported to an Atari rom so if you want to play the original Atari 2600 the way the game was intended you can look for the rom and play with an Atari emulator. The game is not complete however but you will make it through most of the game. The reason it was never completed was Mattel Electronics who was making the game closed after the video game crash and it was not finished yet. This is not a big problem because the Intellivision game cycles through to level 250 then repeats at level 1 and you never can actually win the game.

The game is interesting because of the 3-d perspective. In a sense it was a forerunner to Wolfenstein 3-D. You face many typical Dungeon & Dragon or fantasy based enemies such as skeletons the weakest adversary, and the final boss is a Minotaur though once he is beat you simply restart the game. In the Atari 2600 version you cannot reach the Minotaur. You can face all the other bosses though such as Ghouls, and Dragons. This game is actually an ok game to play for an 80's game but it gets old and while you can't reach the Minotaur on the Atari version you wont mind missing it because you wont want to play up to level 250.
